Anime

i need some recommendations of anime movies. ive watched princess mononoke and absolutely loved it one of my favorites by faaar, since then ive been trying to find something similar to that. ive watched spirited away which was nice, howls moving castle which was good but the ending was too crazy for me, i didnt like valley of the wind and grave of fireflies was just too depressing. so im looking for something like princess mononoke style. something magical not futuristic and not too damn depressing. can anyone help me?

I know a great hardcore anime movie named Ogenki Clinic. I recommend!
It's the adult kind though.

Berserk was INSANE. I bought the Box of War. there NEEDS TO BE A SECOND SEASON.

The Samurai X -> Reflection etc movies of Kenshin are wild , still working on the series, up to episode 60 or something

loved Trigun too. Womanizing drunkard. I can relate to him hehe.

Heres a list of ones ive seen and would recommend

Akira

Berserk (hard to describe)

Blood of the Last Vampire

Blue Gender (tight idea, also explores human relationships)

Cowboy Bebop + Knockin on Heavens Door movie

Evangelion + End of Evangelion (Interesting series , im sure youve heard that end kind of sucked, but still worth the rest of the series to watch)

Escaflowne the movie (watch this and youll be perfectly sad. beautiful movie)

Ghost in the Shell

Hellsing (badass, short series, but insanely compressed badassness)

Jin-Roh (Youll only watch this a few times in your life, but each time...intense drama exploring psyche of a military killer and revolutionaries. Post WWII Japan, but this time the Germans had won.)

Kenshin (All the Kenshins...you better be tough when watching these...and alone)

Kenshin - Reminiscence [a.k.a. Kenshin - Tsuikohen]

Kenshin - Seisouhen

Last Exile (AMAZINGLY drawn)

Mononoke Hime

Naruto (Funny and creative. Everything just works. Ninja lad training to become a master.)

Ninja Scroll

Perfect Blue (Mind Screw)

Serial Experiments:Lain (another mind screw)

Spriggan (tight)

Trigun (drunk womanizer. some wild shit happens. The boys got skills)

Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust (beautiful and touching. With some crazy vampire fighting.)

Witch Hunter Robin

Wolf's Rain (really original idea. Wolves searching for paradise. Can look like humans to people though. Incredibly strong.)

I suggest reading the berserk manga as well.

Samurai Champloo is a recent favorite of mine.

However, the first movie was REALLY good! Highly recommended even if you haven't ever seen Naruto.

yeah a lot of people bitch about naruto. The stretching is an effect they do on purpose. When you have all 132 you can just blaze through. My friend hadnt seen it and we watched 32 episodes yesterday. It just sucks waiting a week hehe.

Chojin recommends: [off the top of my head]

appleseed [2004]

I really liked Metropolis.

Posted by Goashem on May-09-2005 03:34:

heh well alot of the ones you guys recommended are tv series which is not exactly what im looking for. im more interested in the artistic part of the anime rather than the plot (even though its quite important for me). i guess i should have said in the begining that what im really after is the whole liquid spirits, wizards transforming to dragons stuff. thanks for all the contributions so far though !

Posted by DJ Chrono on May-09-2005 03:48:

I was just going to recommend Beyond the Clouds. It's really good.. but it is alittle more futuristic, and not magical.

looks pretty awesome ill definately try and get it. also did you see the movie casshern ? (not an anime). i saw the trailer a while ago and was blown away.

Haven't seen it yet. The trailer made me go nuts, though.

By the end of this year, you'll have to add Final Fantasy: Advent Children to that list of movies you have to see.

There are a lot of sports oriented ones.

Also, there are A LOT of drunk characters in a few of them.

Casshern is the greatest movie ever made. I don't know how on earth they could construct such a perfect thing. The editing, cinematography, emphasis and composition of the shots.. mixed with a story that is packed with action and great fight scenes.. and then top it off with such emotion. Every time I see the last scene (has the best song ever to match it) I just want to cry,,

ahh

good movie.

"X"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0184041/

this was actually the only anime i ever owned. most others i watched at a friend's house or something, although there aren't many others, after all.

pokemon is good. That little dood come from the Tarzo family. he spins more people out the ring than the average top spinner. Though back in the old days spinning tops were more hardcore. pokemon wouldnt survive against the old school playerzzz!!
