Problems deleting an AVI
I was doing doing some spring cleaning of my hard drive, and was trying to delete an avi file. But this one file is being a bitch. When I try to delete it, Windows says that the file is in use by another program, when it obviously isn't.
Anyone know how I can boot this file to the curb like an unwanted guest?
uh oh.....
get a mac
get an ipod
do the ms-dos thing ,it always works!
open up notepad under start...programs...accessories.
type in some random characters.
save the text file as the same name as the avi in the same location.
if it asks whether you want to overwrite the file, say yes.
then you should be able to delete the now-overwritten file.
Restarting your computer should solve the problem.
DEL C:\XXX.avi <ENTER>
I'm making the assumption that since an intelligent person such as variableS is seeking our help, that most other options (aside from the DOS command line attempt) have been exhausted.
Have you tried deleting it after booting in Safe Mode, variableS?
yea i tried deleting in ms-dos. but the command line says filename not found
i'll try the notepad idea
