Shpongle - Nothing Lasts... But Nothing Is Lost
Shpongle - Nothing Lasts... But Nothing Is Lost (Twisted Records - cat. number : TWSCD28)
Shpongle is back, with a new album, 'Nothing Lasts' a reference to Terence Mckenna and one of their many influences, the imitable audio pioneers, Simon Posford & Raja Ram remind us not only the about the impermenance of life but also how to rewrite the ambient agenda with yet more spell binding music from their outer cosmos that is 'Shpongle'. With sonic waves in a sea of synths, battalions of brazilian batucada beats, flamenco solo's, piano solo's, vocal soarings from Hari Om and trancey dubs this really is more music from the otherworld. A place of undefinable and indescribable beauty where all cultures collide, genres are rode over roughshot, and nothing is outlawed. For those that know them these will be sentiments they recognise and welcome as further evidence of Shongle's reputation. To those that don't, welcome to a new universe one with it's own language and musical map, a place of beauty and impermenance.
'Nothing Lasts' will be released on Twisted Records 28.05.05.

Oh hell yes
LOL at the track names.
Crazy guys, and unparalleled producers. Proves the often quoted thin line between ingenuity and madness.
Just listened to this for the first time...amazing album. The way these guys used such a large array of instruments and different sounds and blend them together is incredible. Definetly an album you have to listen to all the way through...sounds cheesy but it really does take you on a journey...
Yeah I thought it was a bit cheesy as well. Didn't like those horrible squealy chipmunk type vocals through some of the tracks - spoilt the album a bit for me.
Unparalleled variation and innovation. Simon Posford can fit more ideas in one song than many artists can in one album. The requisite experimental noises are there, but I'm willing to take the annoying with the good when the good is this good (if that makes any sense). It always amazes me how elements can transition so seemlessly from one moment to the next. The album feels like one long song that just progresses from stage to stage. Even though some of the songs from previous albums are better, I think this is my favorite Shpongle album as a whole.
Terence McKenna was the man...I'll have to check this out if it's a tribute to him. Read all his books...RIP!
The Stamen Of The Shaman, holy Shpongle.
Just got it in the mail
Listening now, on track #2, but really the whole album is just 1 track, lol.
EDIT: Done listening all the way through. OMFG!!!! Great album. Very refreshing to hear.

Highlights include:
- Tracks 1-3 (a.k.a. "Beja Flor")
- Shnitzled In The Negev
- The Stamen Of The Shamen
- Exhalation
- Connoisseur Of Hallucinations
- The Nebbish Route
- Falling Awake
I have come to the conclusion that like the first 3 tracks (which when combined become the track known as "Beja Flor" that the rest of the album is the same way. I listened and came up with the individual tracks.
01. 1,2,3
02. 4,5
03. 6,7,8
04. 9,10
05. 11,12,13
06. 14
07. 15,16
08. 17
09. 18,19,20
So in my mind there are really 9 Complete Tracks on this album. If you listen I'm sure you'll be able to pick that up.
