About Mixing

I play keyboard very well and come up with good sounds and samples but my mixing isnt up to par.

I use FLSTUDIO and would like to know what to apply in fx area for a good mix
ex.

Compression (when and where)
Equalizers (when and where)
and so on....

i want the best for heavy deep non distorted kicks and clearity with hats etc and leads.

Most of the time, the quality of mixing is a question of experience. The more you produce, the more your tracks will sounds good.

It's better to EQ everything to choose the frequency you'll need for every sound. So that every melody has its place in your track and won't be hidden by other melodies in the same kind of frequencies.

Compression should be almost everywhere. Compress the rythm, the bass and the lead (you don't need to compress a linear pad).

There is no real "way to do" a good mixing. There is some tips but it depends everytime of the sound you choosed and the overall sound you want to have for your track.

Just use the Fruity Parametric EQ on every instument and cut whatever frequency is in the way to clear up the mix. Like cut the lows from your percs and a bit from your leads. Read and search this forum for more specific info (look at the stickies).

Compression is harder and can make your mix more dirty, especially when beginning to work with them, I suggest to just wait with the compression part cause it's harder to create good results with that. And no, you don't NEED to use compression on everything.

Watch out the levels when you put out, if it's clipping, just lower the master volume and try normalizing and a tad limitting on the whole afterwards.

Actually it depends of the sound you want to have. Some producers like Alex Morph put compression on everything. And it rocks!!!!

Personnaly I don't use compression everywhere but some people do it.

Yes, you may be right but there's one difference:
Alex Morph already has experience so he knows what he's doing. The topicstarter want to learn to mix.

Compression generally makes the overal volume harder by compressing the peaks that are above your threshold. The ratio is how MUCH the compression is. So you can bump your track like : BOOM BOOM, but you also can ruine your track.
The only way to learn is to read some compressiontutorials and listen. Listen en learn from your faults.

If you compress anything you will destroy must of your dynamics. Try to find a way to hold the dynamics AND bump your track up.

You're right, but dynamic is not that important in techno music. Because everyone want a FAT SOUND!

Compression is really hard to learn, certainly the hardest thing in the mix. And you're right, it can ruin everything you did.

Yep, to set the right compression to your sounds is very difficult, but I think the EQ step is the hardest thing to do in my mix. I use compression A LOT, again and again!

Signal 2005, you need to have patience and read the incredible amount of articles available about this subject on NET (Computer Music, Sound On Sound etc - use GOOGLE Engineering
Besides that, you should use the search function on this forum. There are a lot of tips and tricks about that

I figured it out and WOW what a diffrence the clearity is amazing and so sweet the beat i got going along with bass sounds so professional right now i never heard anything sound this good.

Man im having more fun producing this track than any one i have done becuase the motivation is there now.

i got the kick sounding perfect its run off same compression as the snare and hats then i got bass on seperate compression with seperate eq and it all sounds awsome.Thanx guys
