Armin Van Buuren - Serenity (Dutch Sensation White 2005 Anthem)

I love it!

...but, it just seems like something is missing. Don't get me wrong, I've not yet got started with producing, so I couldn't do any better. And I LOVE the first part of the song up to and including the break. However, once it kicks back in, it seems like there's a certain energy missing to the song.

On that note, I realize that the Sensation Anthem is normally the last one played during the megamix, so I suppose maybe it does not have that energy for a reason...because, at the end of a set, one might choose to have a song that mellows out the vibe a little bit. But, even still, it seems like the song should have a little bit more structure to it.

However, it's highly likely that I will still go out and buy this record once it's released

It sounds like he listened to Adagio For Strings a few hundred times and then went out and made this.

Yeaa he stole Tiesto's sound and Souvenir de Chine's melody

For the first time ever I like the Black Anthem way more (produced by The Rush, the guys that made last years White Anthem). But nonetheless a fine anthem for such a party. But to be honest I'm looking way more forward to the "new style"Armin tunes that are supposed to be on his album.

Good tune for the purpose it was made for. I guess it will be performed live with Jan Vayne during White

I find it a crap tune and production.

Can't believe this comes from Armin. can't even believe that it is an Anthem.

I don't think it's bad at all... not my favourite track ever, but I prefer it to Adagio, to which so many people seem to be comparing this (and I can understand why). Still very curious about the Signum Remix

What is the name of the Sensation Black Anthem and where can I find a copy? I LOVED last years White Anthem by The Rush, and also their track "Baby Got To Fly"

and I too am interested in hearing the Signum Mix of the White Anthem (wasn't even aware they remixed it...)

It's def. Adagio-like but it's good in its own right methinks.

Well hearing this tune played by Armin @ NYE at Sublime - Horden Pavillion Sydney Australia sounded SUPERB in a large arena.

Can't believe I didn't realize that before. But, after reading your comments and listening to the song again, I can DEFINITELY see how one might conclude that Armin ripped off Tiesto (or, if you want to be more optimistic about it, was "inspired by" Tiesto).

Still like the tune though.

and how exactly does the track sounding like Adagio For Strings have anything to do with Tiesto?

How is it funny? Tiesto didn't make Adagio For Strings, he remixed it so how can he rip off Tiesto?

No need to be a dick about it.

Well, obviously we're not talking about Armin ripping of Samuel Barber's original work. We're taking about the similar sound to Tiesto's Adagio remix. No worries.

I thought it sounded more like Ferry's old mix but to each their own

Does this track contain a bass?cos i only hear a bass when the pads come in...anyway..i think armin could do a lot better than this improfessional remix of Souvenir De chine...

yeah exactly

It's full of nice ideas, I especially like the pads and that electric piano/bell kinda sound that plays the melody before the distorted lead comes in.

I'd say it lacks a bit of drive too, but that's just what many of Armin's productions are like now... I thought the same thing about Communication Part 3 - great tracks, but there's an energy-dampening element about them that puts me off them. Not sure if it's the kick he uses (the one he ALWAYS uses now) or something to do with the percs, but yeah there's something lacking.

Overall though it's a nice track and makes a good anthem.

nothing special, but quite nice
my score: 6.5/10

said before a thousend times in the unknown track section, when we didnt knw it was armin who made this. even not-into-trance-peepz say it sounds like adagio ... anyway, nice track. 2 bad there are the many topics on this, it needs to stay focussed and centred ... and i started first lol:P

Posted by tubularbills on May-15-2005 17:19:

I'm enjoying it. there a few spots in there where it seems like something went wrong, but overall not too bad. i'd say 8/10. When i first heard it , it reminded me of something from Marco V more than Adagio....but i can see a resemblence [but then again, you can pretty much say that about any track that has an edgy bassline and orchestra in the background]. but overall decent track

Posted by PortoB on May-15-2005 23:27:

i'm loving it
8/10
