Frist Pushin' the Red Button Next Week, Caves into Fundies

Damn, just my luck that I go on vacation there's gonna be some major fireworks in the Senate next week. First we've got the Bolton nomination going to the full Senate floor (that is, if Condi finally hands over the documents she's supposed to hand over on Bolton). And now Frist comes out sayin' the showdown on the filibuster's comin' next week:

The focus will be on two women, Priscilla Owen, first nominated in 2001 to serve as a judge for the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, and Janice Rogers Brown, whom Bush named in 2003 to serve on the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.

Frist's announcement cleared the way for a momentous showdown that blends constitutional and political issues - the powers of the legislative branch to advise and consent in a president's nominees and the ability of a political minority to influence the outcome.

Frist thinks he has the votes. Who knows, maybe he does. Either way, this is gonna be a helluva fight in the Senate. You guys on the Right wanted to see the debate on the merits of these judges? Well you're gonna get all that you want and more. This is gonna get bloody. And just remember, this is Bush's way of reaching across the aisle to get things done in Congress, just like he said he would after he won his re-election. Yep, this is how it's done - regurgitate extremist activist judges that have been turned down before (Owens have been turned down twice by the full Senate, mind you), who's records are anything but stellar, who're anything but with the mainstream viewpoint on issues, who literally piss all over worker's rights, and who feel it necessary to basically reinterpret the Constitution by themselves.

Yeah, it's like reaching across the aisle with a fucking blowtorch.

Keep this thread updated if you can. I dunno if I'll get to a cpu down in Mexico or not, so I'll want to read up on it when I get back.

You better play it safe and skip your vacation to make sure we're all informed . Where you going in Mexico? I'm plan on going to Cozumel sometime in July.

Ya know, I thought about lookin' at the Gulf side, but decided against it because I didn't want to go to Cancun. I completely fucking forgot about Cozumel. Damnit!

Anyway, we're going to Puerto Vallarta. I know, don't drink the water, right?
