Should the guy pay for the date?
so, someone just got pissed on me big time cause i didnt pay for my date's supper (my date didn't get pissed, but my host mum). So i was woundering, you think the guy should pay for supper if you go out for a date?
Personally i have nothing against paying for supper, but then i also excpect her to pay for me some other time, so either some kind of every other time, or seperate bills. If the girl excpect me to pay every time im seriously not thinking she is worth my time, but then again it might be because im used to another culture
And i know there was a similar thread a while back, but i cant find it!
If its a first or second date...I say the dude should pay
But if the girl is cool with you not paying. Then what the heck?!
I pay the majority of the time, which I'm cool with. But if Lisa actually has money and wants to pay, then by all means!

| To answer your question, money should never be an issue. If shes a decent person it will just work itself out and sometimes u get it and sometimes she will get it. However in Canada that will basically leave you single for the rest of your life. Advice: wait till you get back to a normal society before you date |

my gf and i for two years have alternate back and forth between paying most the time. we don't actually keep track, but we subconsciously do it fairly enough so its as close to equal usually.
i mean, this isn't the 50's where the man supports the stay at home wife. my gf and i have the same sort of part time job, make approx the same wage, so why should the guy be expected to pay all the time. its not like we have a goldmine or something. luckily i've never had that financial problem when dating though, its just always seemed to work out. (on another note don't be a cheap skate either, as long as shes not a high maintence bitch, it will usually work out fine). btw, yet another reason why you don't try to pick up 'long relationship' girls at a bar/club by getting them a drink. do ppl actually do that btw? or just a one nite stand thing? i'm outta the loop on that one, but i think its pretty sad picking ppl up in clubs, but if i get into that i'm going to be typing way to much...done.
If this was the 1st date then you shouldn't have gone out to dinner. It's better to go for a drink or coffee. Pay for this one so you don't look like a cheap ass and get to know her better. That way when you do go out for a more expensive date you know if she's worth paying for or if she's the type of girl that will offer to pay her share.
I think it should be based on who's making more money. Like if one person is a student and the other works full time, the person who works should pay for the first date....past that I think it should be split fairly.
It's not fair to expect a guy to always pay, though it would be nice to offer paying (that goes for the girls too).

If it's coffee, fast food, or something that's under say...$20.00 the guy should pay. Just call me old fashioned, but it can give you a good rep.
A word of advice from an older guy to younger guys, don't be cheap, she will cost you more in the end.
Engagement rings: Buy large, cry once....Buy small, cry for the rest of your life.
Considering my romantic life has been more of a comedy lately, I probably shouldn't be providing input.. Oh well.
Whenever I've taken anyone out, I've always offered to pay. Ironically, the ones that ended up staying around for a while (in whatever capacity) are the ones that at least offered to pay their share. In that case, I let them handle the tip. That way..
a) The server's well recognized, and
b) You both learn a bit about eachother's boundaries.
But yeah.
Fuck dating. I've given up on the complicated, tangled mass of Christ-only-knows-what that is the Female Mind.

| Originally posted by djbruuen i don't know about that one. i think the first few months say a lot about your relationship, and if every single time you go out the guy pays, thats what its goign to imply. and some girls will either thrive off of that as a hootchie...or some girls will feel uncomfortable as they're being 'baught' becuase face it 90% of the time its $20...ie. a club, coffee, movie, fast food etc. on the engagment ring side, thats one thing i've never understood. when the girl gets married they never wear the engagment ring anymore (sweeping generalization on that comment, cause i don't know it for a fact, but most of the time i only see a wedding band...so i've never understood why that has to be such a high investment). |
Maybe expensive dinners...$100.00 or more....

I have just realized that my wife has conditioned me over the years to not think that $20.00 is a large amount...(thinking while I type...) WHAT A HEAD JOB!!! HOW DID THIS HAPPEN!! ...Just thought of something else, "...But honey it was only $50.00." I'm not sure what's worse, the fact that the item was $50.00 or the fact that she thought it was ONLY $50.00!! ...OH God...I think I'm having a stroke! |
