Motivation....
OK I am seriously lacking motivation at school lol. I think I have the worst case of 'senioritus' in the history of high school ever....hmmm.
Anyways, I was wondering what you people do for your motivation to do projects/work/etc.... I've gone through it all, from thinking about my future and career, to getting more sleep, and even ''trying to make my school work fun''....
I have all A's n B's, but if I don't get movin my grades have a high chance of droppin
soooo....what are your cures of 'motivation deficit' ??
thx

Same Prob Here...
d00d!! I've been having the same prob and I'm a Junior!! I got this big ass project sitting right in front of me and don't have the slightest bit of movtivation to do it! Ahhh!!
I've always been this way and I've really never found out how to motivate myself...I hope somebody has the answer!
ok, set a goal for yourself, like a short term goal that you will finish a project or something, and promise to reward yourself in some way that will make you happy in the end.....work towards the goal, but make sure u reward yourself once you're done....
my motivation every time this past school year was the fact i knew that i was gonna go to Europe for the whole summer and party....every time i thought about not doing my work, i made myself think how much fun i was gonna have, and it helped get the work done...
give it a try
>JM<
I have ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), and I have the hardest time trying to motivate myself. So what I did to motivate myself is I told my parents about every project or homework that I had and if I didn't do it I had a choice of my parents taking away one of three things: My paycheck for that week, My turntables, or all of my prialiges for that week (going out with friends, hockey, ect...). This was all my idea too. I told my parents that if they wanted me to pass they would have to take away something very dear to me so they said ok but we will give you the choise of those three things I previously mentioned. Now that I am out of school and my girlfriend doesn't have a job and we just moved in together, my motivation for getting up for work is my girlfriend and her needs because she is currently between jobs and has no money so I must pay for basically everything.

Crack!
mmmMMMMmmmmHHHHHuuuuuummmmmmmm.
Eh I mean why dont you ask Mr. Owl?
that or Mr. Shannon HAHAHAHAHAH sorry trey for not helping but what can I say I got the same prob.
:TF:
i agree with Vivid Boy who said 'never ever say ur gonna leave something for later' becuz that is very very true! i know, i have a free block in my classes that i can study in, but it never happens i usually just check the net and listen to music..
see you say you'll do it later, but you know and i know that you won't
anywhoo, i've been trying to do my homework earlier in the day now, i do it around 7 and get to bed at.. oh let's say 12!!!! i know it sounds stupid i should be getting to bed around 10 (coffee IS the alternative hehe) and that's what i'm trying for, so i don't fall asleep in my classes!
gah! me rambling.. i shut up now.
sometimes when i'm not motivated enough, i look to god, and jesus helps me along the way.........
ok, but seriously, heheh, i am the poster-boy for lack of motivation. I got you ALL beat. Brandon, i had the EXACT same problem in high school..... shit i had senioritis as a sophomore!! i actually had dropped out for a month of my senior year due to my senioritis. But my parents begged the school to let me back in after i left, and they somehow convinced me to stay at least the rest of the year.
It really pissed me off how the guidance councilors kept telling you "don't worry if you dont' know what you want to do with your life, you have plenty of time to decide..." blah blah! That's BS! I'm 23 and have no job, no diploma (from a college, although several random years at 6 different universities/colleges), and NO idea of what i want to do. I'm also turning lazy. I've had random jobs since i was 15, almost worked straight through till now. Recently i just CAN'T get up to go out and get a job - too friggin lazy. I just don't feel like it. I have ADD as well, so it was always really hard for me to concentrate in school. I was on ritalin for awhile, but that shit got expensive and so did seeing psychiatrists to get it prescribed.
Whats' this have to do with anything you ask? well, i guess the truth be told i never was really motivated. I took the wrong way out - i told myself that if i completed what had to be done, i'd buy myself that thing i'd want...... whether it be a CD, record, table, speakers, whatever..... but i was so bad, i went out and bought that thing whether i completed the task or not.
I want to say that lack of motivation is directly resulted in how you are brought up, (some parents being more strict on kids, etc.... some kids that are "proper" just have NO problem being motivated to do stuff - doesn't mean they're happy though....), but then i realized that almost EVERYONE has a period of no motivation in their life. I think its just part of growing up. Its a trying time that you have to deal with yourself, and try to figure out. The only slight of motivation i had all my life was looking towards the end..... I was motivated to finish that one class of Anatomical Physics in college (BORING!) because i had "only 3 weeks left"..... or i was motivated to stick out the Psychology class because "christmas break was in 2 weeks", etc...... I found myself always looking forward to the end of everything. this was the only way that actually worked for me..... until a year ago when i finally said "f#ck it!" and just dropped out of everything.
I regret my decisions 100% d00d. If i could i would start all over from when i was 18, would have enrolled in a college proper and pursued it and TRIED hard to pass. You want motivation? Look at me and my life. I'm probably going to be one of those 28 year old guys who mops the floor in your college at night. It sucks being 23 and having no direction, no desire, no work, and no motivation.
I'm not stressing about it though. As everyone else said, NOT stressing about it is the key. That's why i'm not depressed or anything. you just got to shrug it off and say "f#ck it!! I'll live each day at a time, and do what i have to do!" that works in the chillax department. And like was mentioned earlier, when you get projects, if you do the bulk of them the DAY they are assigned, you feel so good about yourself the next 2 weeks until its due. It feels like a giant weight is off your shoulders. ....... Man i miss that feeling.
Anyways, don't do what i did

that would probably work i guess..
it's so hard because i'll say "ok time to go to bed" at 10pm and then it'll be 11pm and i'll be like "ok it's time to go to bed" but i do NOT want to turn winAMP off and leave my computer!!
grr this muzik has me...
well if the fact that if U screw up Ur gonna be a big-fat loser in life, with problems with girls (sooner or later, the good girls look at more than just Ur external appearance, they often need stability and what U've done so far shows them if U can oofer that or not) and Ur own existance doesn't motivate U, I guess U could either drop out (why waste time?...) or set, as Juricimo said, some short term goals to fool Urself with them. like, if "I get an A I'll stop jerkin' off and get some real puss" or whatever satisfies U ("hell, if I graduate I will get so stoned, I'll forget at what University I signed up")
I personally think that if I work hard now (I can't say school has ever been a real issue for me, but anyway...), I will have enough time later to do whatever I wish... I would be able to chose what I want to do, I'll do it w/ pleasure and therefor it'll be way easier for me to live.
About things we don't like to do... take them as tests, early tests life throws for U to go over and prove U can survive. I know school might not get U that impression, but this is our age. Also, this atribute develops in different situations, different times in life... no need to say something is useless, it's meaning is not obvious at the present moment.
4 example, maybe this post seems useless. if it didn't help U, maybe it actually is... or maybe not.
good luck!
HAHAAh what a bunch of lazy ass mofos! jk....ok for one thing, plastic (or whoever started this thread) if u are doing ANY kind of drugs (including pot) STOP now. that shit just adds to it. as for me, well im a typical fucking space cadet...the clouds are my home away from home...i prolly should be on ritalin but for me, that's just too depressing that i would need a pill to concentrate...i wont do it! im too proud...btw, some ppl just arent for school. but i will tell u one thing...when u graduate high school, do SOMETHING...even if it's some lame job..dont "take a break". im 20 years old and im still on my "break" so to speak. hahah i am pretty much what vivid boy said. oh and that dude that said the thing about telling your parents what u have to do and telling them to punish u if u dont do it is a damn good idea. i used to do shit like that. if i had a really important project due, i knew inside the only way i'd get it done is if my mom knew about it. hahaha cuz my mom dont fuck around.
ABT: Apparently there's one thing you *do* enjoy: Writing. With all those never-ending posts here, your ability to get worked up on just about every single subject and the way you back up your opinions with solid arguments, you ought to pursue a carreer in jounalism, authoring or politics. IMO.
trancaholic : u speak english better than british or american people , i wish i could write just like you

Want to know the best part of my life story? I kept dropping out of college because i could NOT pass English 1101 (english I). it required writing papers due for EVERY class and i HATE writing papers. funny little bit of irony, eh? But i agree with FastDJMp3, tracaholic you're english is better than any americans or brits i know. i think *you* should pursue journalism.
Ehehe. ABT you are an older version of me.
I am currently dealing with 'senioritis', as you guys have colorfully named it.
Actually, I've been dealing with that disease for as long as I can remember. Right now I should be working on an English Project, but I can't get around to doing it, even though Hamlet is sitting right here beside me.
But yeah, I don't know what the hell I should do. I've most likely got some ADD in there too.
School work is easy.. starting is the hard part. I'm not sure if I'm more lazy or more irresponsible.. probably a lot of both. I'll do things like tell myself I'll do my math while I'm at my friend's house. Sure. I'll get over there, get baked.. and take a look at trigonometry, laugh, and close my books because that shit makes no sense when your stoned. I dropped out for a semester, because my marks were so awful that there wasn't a point to going to class.
Maybe I should quit weed.. or start taking a lot of ritilin.
ABT - does Ritilin actually help at all?
If I can get something to make my head stop jumping around and actually let me pay some attention to my school work, I might make something of myself yet.
Doesn't it piss you off, Rob, to know that you're damned intelligent, but you lack the motivation to use it?
It does me... only I'm too lazy to care.
Anyways.. be cool! Stay in School!
woa vivid, I would really hate to live your life. After a while that whole chase for money drugs and girls just started seeming pointless to me, anywhoo, off the tangent. Thinking about the future seems to be the best motiviation for me, but since you already tried that, you might wanna get some peer pressure to help you, get your friends to bug you until you get all your work done.
