For the synth pros here, how would you eminate these leads? (Samples inside)
Hi,
Hope everyone is okay. I did various searches and read through the recent posts and couldn't find anything on this kind of thing so thought I would just come out and ask...
I'm pretty new to synths, been messing around with a selection of softsynths for the past couple of weeks (using most of the ones recommended on here, Tau Pro, FM7, Vanguard, z3ta, JunoX2 etc), and have now got hold of 2 hardware synths in the Novation Supernova II and JP8000 (2nd hand and at good prices
).
(I ask this after hours on end of frustration without getting anywhere near to what I'm after!) ...I was wondering which synths/softsynths you'd use, and what waveforms and settings you'd combine to get similar leads to the following samples? (Without the use of a Virus/Nord Lead 3
)
It's more the vibe and raw sound I'm after than the exact sound itself (though of course if you know exactly how to replicate the sound that's always a bonus!).
Here are a couple of samples...
Mac Zimms mix of Damager 02 - http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/s...sm?C=LIMT10&S=A
Fred Baker mix of Adagio - http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF174171-01-02-01.mp3 (two synths I like here, both the adagio lead, and the one layered over the percussion on the offbeat introducing around 0m20s)
Any help is very much appreciated, and also is there anyone else here that's into this kind of tech-trance, as I've noticed it's the more melodic side of trance which seems to be more popular here.
Thanks!
if u want a fat leadsound it's always useful to stack several oscillators onto eachother (saw-waveform is othen the waveform of choice, but i recommend you to check out the other waveforms as well) .. use your synths unison mode and detune funcions.. play around. and a LFO can do wonders for wicked leads..
Sometime a good EQ, reverb, delay and distorsion (even if it's not really distorded it could become brighter) are enough to have a fat lead.
But as Amarezzo said, to use several synths is a good idea. Most of the time we use 3 synths to have 1 lead.
note: several Oscillators, not several synths.. but i guess you understood what i meant..
Hey thanks for the replies
Appreciate the tips!
I read through the 'Exploration of Sound' sticky and that's helped me understand quite a bit more as well, all 30 pages of it!!!
