Gamecube Revolution

Posted by Yan on May-17-2005 18:56:

Release is sometime in 2006.

Prototype shown is larger than final unit.

Nintendo is still determining final colors for the console.

All-Access Gaming, which refers to backwards compatibility to 20 years of Nintendo games, NES, SNES, N64. We dont know particulars of how itll be accessed or what, if any, the cost structure might be.

Downloadable to 512MB of flash memory.

SD memory card slot.

Wireless controllers.

Two USB 2.0 ports.

Built-in WiFi.

WiFi used to interface with the DS.

DS likely to enhance future games.

Self-loading optical drive that will play 12cm Revolution discs and smaller GameCube discs

Self-contained attachment for playing media content, including DVDs.

No controller was shown. So even though the box looks a lot like the one leaked over the weekend, the accompanying controllers were not presented. So was it a leak, or a really good guess?

Let the battle for the digital den begin again. Nintendo Co. on Tuesday was the last of the three major video game console makers to preview its next-generation system, called Revolution. The Japanese company had a tiny surprise, too.

Revolution will face stiff competition from Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 and Sony Corp (SNE.N).'s PlayStation 3 as the manufacturers vie to attract a more diverse audience with products that serve as digital entertainment hubs instead of just serving up video games.

After years of promoting their existing consoles with big-budget games, the three companies touted sleek new technology this week on the eve of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, an annual industry meeting that begins Wednesday.

The ability to play older games was addressed by all three makers, with backward compatibility meaning owners of the new systems will be able to play games created for the existing Nintendo GameCube, Microsoft Xbox and Sony PlayStation 2.

Nintendo went a step further, announcing Tuesday to applause and cheers that Revolution's built-in wireless Internet will provide downloadable access to the thousands of games in company's 20-year-old library, going back to the original Nintendo Entertainment System.

The gamecube is not shit. Its all on how you look at the games. If you are the kind of gamer that has to go and get off by shooting and killing a bunch of fake people in GTA then by all means go for it. If you would rather play a great game like Zelda or Metroid then get on a gamecube or buy the Revolution.

I play my N64 all the time as well as a lot of RPGs and whatnot. I don't like the GTA games at all and while I do love FPS I prefer adventure games. The only things I enjoyed on GC was Super Smash Brothers.

Wow it has Zelda, a cellshaded godaweful game and Metroid, which wasn't THAT bad but wasn't anything compared to it's predecessors.

The game was NOT awful by any stretch of the imagine. Yea it looked like shit but it was still fun to play.

i'd break it down like this:

gamecube- fun, great gameplay, decent graphics

ps2- all around good, popular

xbox- graphically the best, sometimes lacks fun-factor

*each has its pros and cons.

It all depends what you play games for. I don't think any of these 'next generation' systems are bad at all. The revolution looks nice, and I hope it will play well.

Right, The game itself was amazing. Wonderful story, awesome vilians, and one of the best swordfights ever to exist.

My opinion is one of the stupidest comments you've ever heard, right .

I know it isn't but if the GC is any indication it's going to suck.

He's right ^ That was a low quality comment.

and It's titled Nintendo Revolution.
Here's more pics.

Well hidden controller ports and wireless everything are some other awesome features.

Make wireless STANDARD, damn it!

Freaking Nintendo...

Posted by Blue. on May-26-2005 22:04:

I'm wondering how exactly my opinion of two games on GC is low quality or stupid. I just think that both are games that define the system and both games sucked for the most part, simple.

There we go. Got the pictures fixed.

Check out the colors.

PROPOSED colors!

It might not be released in more than 3, if not only 1, color.

Far from it. Nintendo has a lot of money to spend. I'm sure they could go on for another 2 or 3 console races, AT LEAST.

Actually, this has nothing to do with how SEGA ended up the way it did. After releasing the Saturn, which was QUITE the failure, the Dreamcast was really pushing it and unfortunately they weren't making enough from game and console sales. Nintendo, however, has been around longer and has had half of their consoles become best sellers (Famicom and Super Famicom). That was enough for them to fiddle around for quite a while.

I'll wager a grand, USD, that Nintendo will stay strong and we WILL see them with a new console come E3 '10.
