Poor St Andrew

He's been incarcerated in alcatraz (stratford)by his host family. Sent to work labour camps. And now belittled because he doesnt follow canadian female chauvenist doctrines. What must he think of our country? LOL

Man oh man... you have patience dude because i would have left that place and sued their pants off long ago.

Posted by St_Andrew on May-18-2005 01:12:

LOL, thanks for your compassion

and so much more crazy stuff has happend since that last big post i wrote, its crazy

but yea, 42 days till my parents get her

and yeah i kinda feel like leaving too, but i dont know to where, cause it would be lame as hell to go home now when its such a short period left, and its still a good experience in the end, even tho it feels shite now! hehe

i have an extra room till the end of june...

Dude, you exist in one of the most ballsy situations EVER!

Faaaaaaaack! I honestly dont think i could stand to stay in your currently situation. I honlestly think id explode and either HAVE to leave myself, or id end up so jilted and frustrated and just generally PISSED OFF at that whore of a host-family ur living w/ that id lose it on their asses and they would end up sending my ass packing back home... and id still be thankful just to no longer be in that fucking ballallovertheplace situation!

You are a better man than me for putting up w/ that shit!!!

~Jem~

Seriously? How much? where do you live? Do you have a undertable job for me too? or wait, didnt you have your own sub resturant or something? Then i could work "volenteerly" for you if i got the rent for free?

i would really love to do that if it would work out!!! In the same way its kinda lame to give up everything after 9-10 months when its only like 6 weeks left! but yeah, i would get an awesome last time here and i wouldnt have to put up with all this shit anymore...

@ liam, its basically thats the exchange student organisation im here with are fucking nazis, and wont let me do the most basic things. also the host family im staying at are insane... for example i werent even fucking allowed to go to prom afterparty and i got into deep shit for signing out from class 3 times, and im not allowed to go to Toronto over day without anyone 30+ that the organisation knows about, and that they approve... etc etc...

@ jem, i dont know how i put up with it, but i think its because after a while you simply get blunt to all the bullshit, which really is tragic... and also i have a good patience and is a pretty calm person... but yeah, sunday night i was so pissed i was lying there hitting my madress, and i have NEVER done anything like that

sadly i cant offer you under the table work but if you buy your own food and pay for some electricity i would consider it. i live in oakville which is 25 mins from downtown.

ouch....sorry bud

too bad u ended up in stratford....if u were in TO or surrounding area, ur host family wouldnt be so anal...

Posted by Tordan on May-18-2005 02:22:

Sounds to me like your host family is just being cautious. After all, you are their responsibility. Doesn't matter that you are over 18.. are you? If something were to happen to you they must be accountable to your parents. That's a lot to deal with... I don't know if I would open up my home to an exchange student so give them a little credit.

ouch...thats shitty dude.

i've never heard of many overally excited stories about exchange programs. i'd only want to go to another country on my own doing. when you're over 19, you want to do things on your own watch. on the downside, i do agree with tordan, that its a huge responsibility on the host families part, if you got shot downtown TO one nite, they'd sure have a good time explaining that one to your parents. (i did not use that hypothetical example to make TO luck dangerous, becuase on the most part it isn't, so don't jump on me for that )

Thats awesome, thanks a lot for even considering it

It would be kinda more expensive tho, but it would be worth it... only problem would be to convince my mom to pay the extra money cause i want to live with this guy from toronto that i met on an internet forum

i can always have it in my mind otherwise and take some bigger risks, and if i get kicked out i have a plan b... or i could just stay at some youth hostel...

@ Tordan & djbruuen, yeah im defentely thankful for them opening up their home to me, but at the same time, that doesnt give them the right to prevent me doing anything, i still paid lots of money to go here and i also offered a year of my life to experience their culture, and im not even allowed to see all the culture! and im 19 so it really shouldnt be any problems with liability... but yeah perhaps the organisatin is made in such a stupid way so that it is... but then again, the organisation should have informed about that beforehand, and made it clear that this is how its going to be, dont excpect to be able to take yourself freedoms such as going to the prom afterparty

Posted by Jayx1 on May-18-2005 03:51:

yeah its the organization and the host family that screwed him. And as i see it, being over 18 means the only person responsible for you is you. You are not a minor which is probably who these rules apply to. If you are out late at night and something happened to you, they would only be responsible if you were a minor. To me they just brought you over so you could do chores.

anyways let me know if u are in... id certainly want to leave. Hopefully you can get a good experience here. Please understand that the problem is with the host family not the place. Except of course when it comes to the dating scenario, because thats our fucked up culture talking there.
