your favorite early nineties trance compilation?

by early nineties i mean pretty much '90-'95....

what's your favorite compilation from those years and why?

why? because I like the music and the tracks. that's why everyone will list their favorite early 90's "trance" compilation(s). if i were to type more, it would just be redundant. "i like this because it has my favorite these tracks on it, and this other one because of these cool tracks there that i like, and the acid lines on that track are reeeealy bombastic omg!"

The greatest compilation (fuck the genres) from that era is the following

Coldcut - 70 mins of DJ madness (it was originally released in 1995, re-issued in 2002) and nothing comes close to it nor does anything touch it.

To me, this captures some of the best elements of the old german trance coming out of Music Research. The cover isn't just some fancy gimmick; these tracks really do have that spacey feeling that trance used to be able to create with ease. Some of it borders on hardcore, of course (a lot of hard trance could be indistinguishable from hardcore back in those days) and may sound unrefined to modern tastes, but that's also the beauty of it, too. Throw in the fact these are some of the less known tracks by many of these acts and it's win-win.

Sure, EyeQ may have far more tracks that have stood the test of time when compared to modern tastes, but rarely did they ever create tunes that were as fun as these ones.

Why did trance producers have an obsession with 2001 back then?

It shouldn't bother you that we listed our personal favorite. I can't speak for Toronto, but my personal choice does contain a fair portion of Trance. Psy-T doesn't seem to be offended by our choices, and he was the one who created this thread.

yeah there are a few trance tracks in your "favorite", but not enough for it to be called a trance compilation. i'm not offended, i'm just wondering why you two would be stupid enough to knowingly post house and downtempo/hip hop/ninja tune stuff in a thread specifically asking for trance. even the people who listed pvd and tiesto cd's got the genre right. anyway i think it's a legitimate question. one you'll find it hard to answer, because i already have. you're idiots.

I'd really like to not turn this thread into an all-out flame war, so I'm going to point Psy's exact question, ask you, "Where, other than the title, did he say Trance?" and leave it at that, because the argument is beyond pointless...
