Angry Insurance companies.

holy shit, i hate these people, and the concept of insurance altogether.

You HAVE to have it, but dont use it or else your premium will go up.

it costs ungodly amounts of money to those least able to afford it.
(im friggin 18, i cant afford to pay 342.00/mo to some jackass so i can drive my car)

the generalizations, good god, the generalizations. ive never had a speeding ticket, however, since i am an 18 yr old male i am the worst driver to defile the roads, i race, i burn out my tires, i hit old ladies for a good laugh, and i often ram police cars when i find myself unhappy.

insurance is bulllllllllllshittttttttttttttttttttt and i hate them.

im cancelling my insurance tomorrow and taking my car off the road

good so your car is more or less useless

Posted by eye_03 on May-19-2005 08:44:

it depends on what kind of car you have..

as a male ages 18-25 our insurance is waaaayyy up there

i drive a '90 integra and the insurance is $200/mo

you think its useless now, but wait until you are bowling with your friends and you come out to your car to find some jackass did a hit and run to your rear end!!

the shitty part was, i still had to pay the deductible of $300

If you really want to know how insurance companies determine the cost of your insurance then I suggest you check out the following.Understanding Insurance

This is for auto insurance in Ontario however, the concepts are the same world wide.

The general public does not take the time to actually understand insurance....all they know is they have to buy insurance....a little research can teach us all a thing or two.

If you want to know what insurance is for I suggest that you get into an accident, fracture a 21 year old's pelvis in 4 places, shatter her 4th lumbar vertabre (causing nerve damage making it impossible for her to urinate or have a bowel movement without manual stimulation of the colon or bladder), fracture her humerus, fracture her talus, and shattering her hip (resulting in one leg being 2 inches shorter then the other), thus ensuring she cannot work ever (because she can neither stand or sit for more then 10 minutes). Oddly enough, your "useless" insurance company will pay to defend you and pay the $1,000,000 settlement on your behalf. The good thing about this is that you will not have to sell everything you own and then pay 50% of your wages for the rest of your life to this young woman. Makes the $200/month seem worthwhile doesn't it?

FYI, I'm an insurance adjuster, the above story is based on a claim I just settled. I deal with this sort of thing every day.... trust me, you don't want to be without insurance.

Wtf? $342/month? Where do you live? Most 18-25 yr old men need to pay like $1200 per year for car insurance.

Price may vary by coverage. At $342/month in Virgina I'm guessing he has collision, comprehensive (or all perils), and 1,000,000 liability.

The simpsons said it best about insurance:

quote:

Marge: I'm sure your insurance will cover the house.
Maude: Uh, well, no. Neddy doesn't believe in insurance. He considers
it a form of gambling.

One 15-minute call to GEICO Direct could save you 15% or more on
car insurance!

ok but seriously...if you qualify for the good student discounts, atleast with my company, it takes away any age penalty by rating you as an adult...

i think that stereotype is based off the belief that if you are good in school then you probably dont have any friends to go out with and fock stuff up.

take advantages of all the discounts you can...

if you live with your parents convince them to insure their home and cars all with the same company. you'll get multi-car and auto/home discounts which help A LOT! also, ask about any discounts you may get for being a student or having a social job such as a nurse, teacher, cop, firefighter... etc. have your insurance agent name off all the discounts there are too see if you qualify for any.

a really good discount is any defensive driving course you can get... it reduces points on your license (if you had any for prior violations), but most importantly reduces your premium by a certain percentage... ny it's 10% off premium

Insurance is a scam on par with pyramid schemes in my book.

These companies prey upon people's fear of disaster to con them out of large sums of money. For the vast majority of people, the amount they would have had to pay if they didn't have insurance will never ever begin to approach what they end up paying for insurance.

"Peace of mind" they call it - well I don't buy that but I'd be happy to give them a piece of my mind for a much more reasonable price.

There is this strange concept where you can "save up" money instead of spending it all, where you can live and behave intelligently, with due caution and prudence, and where if and when you end up in a situation where you've got a major expense to pay, you take a little personal responsibility for it instead of whining about how it was "chance" and deal with the expense yourself. The insurance con artists would have you believe that this is some sort of terrifying and horrible experience but I just call it "life."

You either make decisions, and you live with the consequences, or you join this idiotic scheme where everybody still makes their own decision, but everybody deals with everybody else's consequences. I don't know about any of you, but I'd rather have my financial expenses in my own hands, rather than in the hands of every other idiot who happens to land in the same demographic. I'd rather deal with the consequences of my own life and my own decisions, rather than deal with the consequences of other people's lives and other people's decisions who share some superficial similarity to me.

The reality is that insurance is the enemy of personal responsibility. The only people it ought to appeal to are fools and cowards.

always say you use the vehicle for an amount under 7500 miles a year and as a "pleasure" vehicle. tell them you take the bus to school or something...

also depending on which company you are with...the guidelines for getting out of an indemnity category can be pretty difficult...but if you've had insurance for a continuous 5 years and a clean driving record that amount of time...look for quotes from other insurance carriers if you had tickets and accidents before because if you get written in a high risk category...chances are they won't take the time to rewrite your policy for you if you know what i mean...

Posted by DJ Cinos on May-20-2005 08:16:

This is why you don't get insurance anymore than necessary. NONE AT ALL. You save up enough money to pay for whatever happens by not paying for insurance.

And say, if that situation of crashing into some idiot and seriously damaging her happened... I'd simply do another small bump and finish her off so nobody can tell the story in her favor. Of course this wouldn't work in an area with many witnesses.
