Hey guys, im new to this forum just saying hi. im looking for some progressive melodic emotional hi-NRG peaking trance. it sounds hard to comprehend but heres some examples of the songs i like. they key to all of them is that the peaking section of the song is done MELODICALLY, with little or no drums until the end. if anyone knows some tracks other than the ones listed below plz reply below !
thanks again

(Artist) - (Title)

Alphazone - Revelation
Rank 1 - Symsonic (Dumonde Remix)
CRW - I Feel Love (Dumonde Remix)
Blank & Jones - Cream
Styles & Breeze - Your Shining

im sure there are many more songs of this type since they are the most emotional type of trance ! thanks again for your help. PS if there is a shorter word to describe the above songs plz tell me to save time in future haha

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAEHHAHA!!!!!!

Alphazone - Revelation
Rank 1 - Symsonic (Dumonde Remix)
CRW - I Feel Love (Dumonde Remix)
Blank & Jones - Cream
Styles & Breeze - Your Shining

Yup thats what i call progressive.

Get the point? My new youngling. Before you use a word as broad as progressive, first learn its meaning in correlation to the music and then you can talk about progressive. Im sorry but none of that music you posted is progressive.

the helpful reply ratio is 1/5. a new low i'm sure.

FFS give people a break. the music you guys call progressive now is different than the music called 'progressive' 10 years ago. maybe this guy knows it as it was defined years ago.

BTW check out the last track on the CD resident transmission CD #3. it might be what you're looking for.

Dont let the "el33ts" get to you, based on the music you like, which was pretty hard to define im sure, you can safely say you basically like epic trance (or, melodic).

Look for ANYTHING by dumonde and alphazone, and look for some 4 strings, Rank 1, jose amnesia stuff im sure youll like it.

One thing is certain, get these 2 choons:

Jose Amnesia - The Eternal (Nu Nrg Remix)
Pervading Call - Destiny (ANY mix)

Posted by [Chriz] on May-22-2005 03:31:

actually most stuff by alphazone has this hi-nrg peak which you're talking about....

dj kim - time and space(alphazone remix)
dumonde - never look back(original mix)
mat silver & tony burt - ultimate wave(alphazone remix)
dave joy - second chase(alphazone remix)
altitude - altitude(shokk remix)
earth inc - realize(original instrumental remix)
svenson - inside outside

i think these are the kind of tracks you're looking for?

i do not disagree with any of you. i was just trying to emphasize that none of that is or ever was progressive and he needs to learn what progressive really is before labeling music as it.

yup i know...i agree with you...actually progressive and hi-nrg are contradictory?

Posted by ralph_wog on May-22-2005 06:09:

for those who helped thank you most of the songs you told me to get are fantastic and just what im after. for those who didnt... if you looked at a previous reply, this style of music is hard to define. listen to the songs and give me a label i can use. my opinion of progresive trance is such that it starts simple - drums n bass - with a simple melody, builds on all of that, then the melody takes over. although progressive is a broad term, i narrowed it down my adding in more words after it, i was tryin to get a little help from a few people, and i was trying to make it easy for you guys to understand what i was after (filtering out irrelevant search results if u must). if my OPINION is not the same as yours then there is no need to patronise me, once again it is a hard genre to define so i would gladly accept any names for the genre of music i posted earlier.

I think you mean "hardtrance"..

And I agree, try things like Alphazone, Dumonde, maybe some older S.H.O.K.K. and Cosmic Gate tunes..

Good luck..

I have a distinct feeling that you don't know what "progressive" means either.

Hey mate, try stuff by Nu NRG. They have a similarish style to alphazone, but Nu NRG are very melodic.

Try:

Nu NRG - Free Fall
- Dreamland
- Aloa P
- Butterfly

Hope that helps!

Don't let all these flamers get to ya mate, a lot of people here think they know everything about music, but I bet a lot of them wouldnt even know what a bar is.

Listen to some Ron Van Den Beuken songs or Airbase - for me they always have high energy

Posted by SPANIARD on May-22-2005 16:41:

Try these 2 songs:

Sayla-"Second Thoughts"
Aegan-"Debris" (M.I.D.O.R. vs. Six4eight Remix)

Im not saying that he is correct in his definition of prog but just out of curiosity what would be yours? In your opinion what tracks are more or less genre defining?

Progressive Trance definition from Wikipedia

Progressive trance (sometimes melodic trance) is popular sub-genre in trance music. It has elements of fast techno music and ambient music. The basic formula of trance became even more focused on the anthemic qualities and melodies, moving away from predictable arppegiated analog synth patterns (aka acid synth lines). Acoustic elements and spacey pads became popular, compositions leaned towards incremental changes (aka progressive structures), sometimes composed in thirds (like Brian Transeau frequently does), buildups and breakdowns became more elaborate and intense. The sound became more and more ethereal and heavenly. This sound came to be known as epic trance (sometimes called melodic trance or anthem trance), and became the foundation of what the modern progressive trance sound is today.

The structure of progressive trance is different from a typical techno track. The introduction generally starts with slower ambient beats. Following this section is a "breakdown" and then the main melody. There are build-ups with faster beats, and the track usually concludes with an "outro" that typically slows down as the track ends, though it can be fast. Electronic effects and vocals are usually in both the intro and the coda.

Progressive trance became popular because of the build-ups of beats and sparing use of vocals. Phrases can be any multiple of 4 bars (4-8-12-16 etc.) in most typical progressive trance tracks. Phrases usually begin with the introduction of a new or different melody, or the introduction of hi-hats to the track. In progressive trance there may be four more simultaneous layers.

Known artists in this electronic music genre include James Holden, Luke Chable, Transa, 4Strings, DJs Sasha and John Digweed. Newer artists include Terje Bakke, The Last Atlant, Hydroid, Gerry Cueto.

There are some things about this definition I disagree with, but I think it is probably the best technical definition available. I'm no expert myself, but I think technically ralph_wog is right, or would be right maybe 5 years ago. But this genre, as well as EDM as a whole, is fairly new and just like the music, the definitions are changing almost all the time. The meaning of progressive has changed from ralph's use meaning as the track builds sounds and momentum the track becomes more complex until of course it has a break-down and then a melodic peak. Technically this refers to most trance as well as other forms of EDM (but mostly trance). The meaning, as I have come to understand it, has changed to separate progressive trance from the other genres of trance, such as epic, hard or high energy. What separates progressive trance from these other genres is that it generally is at a lower BPM (~127-132BPM) and is usually more ambient or subdued. I like to use the word "tranquil". This has nothing to do with either progressive techno or progressive house although these genres have similarities due mostly to technical aspects; their core foundations are completely differen't.

I most definately have injected my own opinions into my description so it should not be taken as a definition. The quote from Wikipedia is probably a little aged so it's not as specific and acurate as it should be. I would like to hear other people's opinions on this because I know I probably have left something out and I know I'm not 100% acurate.

As far as recomendations for what ralph is probably looking for, besides what has been mentioned I'd say look for..

- any thing by Dumonde, Cosmic Gate, Rank 1 or M.I.D.O.R and Six4Eight
- any thing by Push, M.I.K.E. or Plastic Boy (all same person)
- Randy Katana - In Silence (Txitxarro Mix) <- many mixes of this but this is my fav
- ReLocate - Typhoon
- Electrovoya - Emotional Response
- Robert Gitelman - Children Of The Sun (and some others by Robert)
- OGP - What If
- Syntone - Can't Believe It (Silverblue Remix)
- Fractal Structure - Lost Sequence (Original Mix)
- Tilt - The World Doesn't Know

There are probably a jillion more but these are the ones that came to me, hope this helps.

^_^
