Genre question (tech-house?)

i suck at classifying songs into genres, but i know enough to say that i'm a "house" fan and "proghouse".

anyway the other night on my way home from the movies, this local radio station was broadcasting live from a ft. lauderdale club and they played this fucking awesome song w/ female vocals and it was very "housey" and the only words i could remember were, "I'm Haunted" so as soon as i got home i looked on discogs and discovered it was Laurent Konrad and then i also discovered that he is the artist behind another song that i've always loved and never knew who did it, "Spread Love" by fightclub....

anyway, is this stuff tech-house?

i really like laurent konrad, and i downloaded a bunch of his stuff that night when i got home. i noticed that a lot of the artists and dj's who play/produce those real housey funky sounds are from france...does that have anything to do with it? do the french listen to a lot of funky house that has a disco sound to it? excuse my ignorance if this is common knowledge...

laurent konrad, cedric gervais, jacques lu cont, are some of the artists/dj's i'm talking about... and i recently discovered this other song that i've heard a lot and never knew the artist name... David Guetta's "The World is Mine" Antoine Clamaran remix. that guy sounds french too and i like his remix the best...even better than deep dish remix.

so is this tech-house genre french inspired?

another good track (don't flame) is the benny benassi remix of tomcraft "Lonliness" and pretty much all of those benny remixed songs i always enjoyed dancing to...i wouldn't like call them THE BEST songs ever, but benny's style always made me want to dance and i'm guilty of owning that song on vinly...and even spinning it when i can

any info is greatly appreciated

oh yea and what about that one popular song now w/ that chick talking in the beginning..

i think it's mashup "wot not pilz" or something...

what genre is that song? i love it. it's also very housey in my opinion. "house" is a vague category though huh?

oh hush...

lemme guess, electroclash isn't popular because GOD FORBID guys like you jump on any sort of bandwaggon...

well my favorite bandwaggon is the one that all the "non bandwaggon jumping people" are on...

the, "fuck everything that's new and popular because i'm different and cooler than everyone else doing the same thing" bandwaggon.

oh and thanks jason i appreciate it!

Actually, I was referring to the image electroclash artists make for themselves, cos it is very compatible with your erm, rather outgoing attitude like you have explained to us earlier. Go listen to Miss Kittin - Frank Sinatra, you'll see what I mean.

As for the electroclash bandwagon-issue, I agree with you. But on the other hand, a lot of the music being labeled electroclash has little to no substance, or just steals ruthlessly from earlier pioneers like Afrika Bambaataa, Heinrich Mller or Kraftwerk. So I can understand the criticism. Neil Landstrumm didn't call one of his tracks "Gigolos Trapped In Retro Hell" for nothing.

this electrohouse genre is very popular in miami now, i guess it's grown on me or something...

*edit*

ok i'll send you more stuff like that...good song heheh...

and yeah...a lot of people hating because its getting trendy now...personally i just really love it...it reminds me so much of a lot of the stuff that i listened to back in the day...and its just fun to listen to...

Posted by Slylee on May-22-2005 19:37:

i agree about liking it..i wouldn't give it a lot of credit as far as what goes into the making of these kinds of songs, but they sure as hell get my ass on the dance floor and that's what's important!

Spread Love is great
heard it 2 years ago on the beach when Robert Gitelman played it, right after As The Rush Comes...was brilliant, even though this is the only two tunes I recognized.

Anyways I'm really into House, may it be Funky, Acid, NY, Electro, Deep, Tribal or Prog - It ownz

Producers I Like..

Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso (who make alot of tunes together)
Tiefschwarz
Martin Solveig
Josh Wink (more on the techno-ish house I guess)
David Guetta
Joachim Garruad
Felix Da Housecat
Mylo (House? meh...I still like him)
John Dahlbäck
Abe Duque
Rex The Dog
Ericke E
Trentemoeller
Erol Alkan
etc' etc' etc'

dunno if all of those come under the House genre, but their good nontheless...
