he's guilty, no two ways about it (unlike the corby case). caught doing the wrong thing in the wrong country, pay the price.

well the guy on death row confessed to the charge, where as corby denies it. but i mean seriously wouldnt u feel a 4kg extra weightin a boogey board bag? but anyways she got off lightly considering most people would get death, then the next best thing being life so 20 years is a whole lot better, but then again what if shes inoccent yadayadayadya........all this really makes you appreciate the little things in life

She did get off lightly which is a bit shifty!

If she is guilty why did she get 20 years, she should of got the death penalty or should just have the case acquited. Its not a consistent result. I think the media attention may have saved her life because the backlash from australia would have been massive

Posted by ProDiGaL on May-30-2005 01:13:

well the judges have never aquited anyone so the odds where greatly stacked up against her. Unlike our judical system SHE has to proven beyond reasonable doubt that she is innocent, and how can you do that? soon as it was found evey guard and his mum touched it, so forget finger printing (i wonder if they even have the technology for that).

Third world countries.....

Yep she got off light. Abu Bashir gets 2 1/2 years for masterminding that kills 202 people. I wonder if that primate govt plays favorites with their fucked up BS religion.

geez, i cant even imagine what would happen if she got death!!! it would definitely cause a stir... mind you i think that the aussie media has hyped this up to a really big thing when it really isnt..

yeah the hype from the media is massive and i think has helped her slightly. It would interesting to see if it was the same situation but the the girl or the guy was of asian origin yet still an Australian.

would the media and the public still get behind them as much

Posted by PulseFusion on May-30-2005 03:54:

yeah i think that if she didnt have so much media attention she might have had a harsher sentence. and i agree if she wasnt attractive she'd definitely not have as much attention. if she was asian i think it probably have been quite different too. this case isnt just about one person, it really is quite a political case.

Posted by Xenocreator_PG_ on May-30-2005 03:57:

She's guilty but only deserves a 3 years sentence. 20 years is too long for such pety crime.

Posted by Heidi_Fleiss on May-30-2005 05:45:

Alexander Downer perverted the course of justice...The support was lowsy, and a lot of evidence was with-held.

Now that Schapelle is to appeal, she is taking a risk. In my view, she will be either extradited, or receive 2 sonsecutive life sentences. An accused heroin smuggler recently appealed the judge's verdict of a life sentence impeded on him, and they agreed ; The decision was not 'just' ; He deserves DEATH.

So what's happened now? This poor guy is on death row for appealing the judge's decision. The judicial system is quite barbaric, so there are great risks involved.

Whether she is guilty or not, she doesn't deserve 20 years locked away, particularly in an Indonesian Cell. These conditions are extremely primitive, and no Westerner could survive a year, let alone an almost consecutive life sentence. They are forced to eat maggots off the floor, contaminated food (which westerners are not accustomed to), abuse etc.

I honestly think she will be extradited, pending peace talks with the government. Australia has kept Indonesia alive with tourism. If it weren't for the Aussies, Bali wouldn't be. Having said this, we have the good end of the spectrum with a negotiation deal.

My prayers are with her.

what the hell does that mean? when people look back over the years and remember the berlin wall falling, they'll also think of that girl who got 20 years for drug smuggling?

When I was up in Sydney on the weekend, i took a short trip to Byron Bay and I drove past Schapelle Corby's beauty salon... unfortunately it was closed, but there was a sign on the door saying "back in 20"...

once i got back to melbourne, i realised i needed to mow the lawns.. so i headed down to the local lawnmower store.. he recommended a new model that had just arrived.. the "victa schapelle", it holds 4.1kg of grass and has a 20 year guarantee...

Posted by A.J. on May-31-2005 06:13:

so bad.....

no but i bet u everyone remembers
"the dingo got my baby"

it ranks up there with that, being a nation divided on whether or not she done it

Yeah but dingos dont eat babies all the time.

Whereas Aussies get busted for drug smuggling all the time.

I think its a disgrace that on the ninemsn online poll, something like 70% of Australians are boycotting Bali because of the Corby decision.

And LOLsers at the jokes / pics.
