The cocoon compilation E (6 x vinyl box)

quote:
INCL. TRACKS BY

HELL
PHONIQUE
WIGHNOMY & ROBAG WRUHME
VTH VS. ROTHER
DEXTER
HUGG & PEPP
PASCAL FEOS
ZGR CAN
STEN
DOMINIK EULBERG
HOLDEN
GABRIEL ANANDA

After the tremendous success of the last edition of Cocoon Recordings' Label Compilation, expectations have been high, but the tracklisting of the fifth vinyl box does not leave much to be desired.

Munich's Gigolo #1 opens the ball with a tremendous tune, followed by Phonique from Berlin and Wighnomy & Robag Wruhme from Jena, one of Germany's most promising acts at the moment. Once more, Sven Vth has teamed up with Anthony Rother to reveal the magic, and Clone artist Dexter sings us the Acid Lullaby. The Dahlbck Cousins have contributed their share just as long time Cocoon Booking artist Pascal FEOS.

zgr Can and Dominik Eulberg are rather new names in the tracklist, whereas STEN, James Holden and Gabriel Ananda are familiar, not least because of their appearance on various Cocoon Mix-CDs.

can't wait for the release of this. the last one was pretty good, but the list of producers on this one looks even better.

Out june 13th

Anyone know where I can hear samples?

Posted by PhilBxR on May-27-2005 19:29:

Nice tracklist, need to check it out upon release.

Posted by chesco on Jun-24-2005 15:52:

hmmmz. The samples I'm listening to certainly don't warrant the 30-35 charge for the vinyl set.

Think if i buy this at all it will be on cd - disappointing to say the least.

what's ozgur can doing on a techno compilation.....poor sven vath has lost his fucking mind.

Posted by XeCUTionER on Jun-24-2005 16:52:

the cocoon compilation isnt a techno compilation at all!
a lot of minimal style and similar things
so i think can isnt too wrong!

Posted by torontotrance on Jun-24-2005 16:55:

Cocoon to me will always be techno and that's that

Posted by Aiwendil on Jun-24-2005 17:09:

Sven Vath went cuckoo a long time ago.

Posted by chesco on Jun-24-2005 17:15:

I think cocoon moves with the times, unlike a lot of other labels. Sure 1 or 2 years ago they were releasing techno records, but sven himself has almost completely stopped playing techno, thus why would his label release techno.

Posted by PhilBxR on Jun-24-2005 17:57:

True, the label is moving with current times. You wouldnt expect Vath to start up an imprint just to release tunes by the likes of Ozgur Can, just because you think it doesnt follow suit in previous Cocoon releases.

Posted by torontotrance on Jun-24-2005 18:57:

I must be unique because I've always admired the ideas of UR, basically like our shit or fuck off and die mental attitude. On one hand, I think go ahead and change with the times for some labels but on the other hand, I think some should'nt change. I'm not dissing ozgur can here, I just never realized how far sven vath has lost it.

btw. for all your vath fans, EM from IBIZA from him in July.

That's called a public misconception.

Posted by torontotrance on Jun-24-2005 19:04:

UR has never cared about the media or have they gone soft like all the other labels.

Except when they licence out their music to be put on the soundtrack of a Playstation 2 game!

Posted by torontotrance on Jun-24-2005 19:07:

I heard that Jeff Mills helps finance UR with donations. I read it on Ellen Allien's site.

Mad Mike Banks must have needed cash to keep the lights on

I'd hardly say sven has lost it. On the contrary i'd say he's doing rather well, he runs arguably the most successful night in ibiza which is just about to re-open for it's 6th season I believe, and he's just opened a multi-million pound club/restaurant in his home-town of frankfurt - the likes of, i've never seen before.

I think looking back he is one of those responsable for a lot of the trends you see in dance music, where some people like to stay in the one style and say fuck the rest, others prefer to move with the times - I have a mutual respect for both parties, neither one could be classed as right or wrong.

That's called being a business man. I don't think that's very relevant in the issue whether Sven has lost it or not (read: musically).

I liked Cocoon when it was a techno label. Now it's responsible for the likes of Roman Flgel - Gehts Noch. What a shame.

Posted by Aiwendil on Jun-24-2005 22:10:

Yeah man, I don't even follow Cocoon. I meant he's off his rocker. He writes to space aliens using the power of his hair. He thinks his right hand and its five smelly generals are out to get him. You know, lost it.

lol, whats wrong with Gehts Noch? it used to be a minimal techno track for minimal techno DJs. not Romand's/Cocoon's fault EVERYONE started playing it, in EVERY set.

'techno', to me at least, is a quite versatile word. sure, Cocoon isn't exactly techno anymore, but it is, to some point...

btw, i had always considered Ozgur as some weird breed of borderline tech-house. was pleased to see him, and holden, on there.
