how much do trance records cost???

i've never bought a record, i barely know what looks like, but am thinking about it more and more lately.....

so how much money (US$ preferably) do trance records go for????
i'm guessing they range for the number of tracks on the record....

>JM<

December 1 ***EDIT***

ok then i just went out and bought two PVD vinyls (the riddle, another way/avenue, and lexos - the key, which in my mind is a great tune

one problem...hehe....no record player.....well anyone know how much record players go for these days???? ( well if they sell them which i doubt) or would i be better off buying me some turntables, but they're damn expensive, like 500 USD for technics Turntables i think i saw...i just wanna play the records not mix them...i dont think i'm gonna become a dj anytime soon, no skillz here...

any advice welcome!

thanx,

Here in Montreal , it's 11-14$ (CAN) , 20$ for a double EP , as for the LP i don't know

Posted by integrity1 on Nov-29-2001 14:22:

it seems to me that most records in the us cost anywhere from 9-12 dollars us.

Posted by Linx_da_cat on Nov-29-2001 14:48:

here in TO it's around 10-15 CDN and a double EP is around 20-23 bucks. it's pretty well rounded considering the importing cost and everything. thank God vinyls have stayled pretty low in terms of price, unlike bloody CDs out there on the market.

Posted by nyczliquid on Nov-29-2001 17:17:

yeh usually $10 in da US...pretty costly..

Posted by Lost on Nov-29-2001 17:58:

yeah in US

$7 - domestic 12"
$10 - import 12"
$15 - 12"x2
$22-$36 - LP

these are the prices i've seen give or take a dollar or two depending on where you shop.

lost

Cool

It can be as cheap as 2 (about $3) for brand new pre-release ones and up to like 8 (about $12) for promos and chart songs.

Posted by Eugene on Nov-29-2001 19:14:

Each imported record costs $10 here in America.
The domestically-produced records are $7.
Brand-new white-labels are sometimes $12.

Wow!!
I didn't think they would be cheaper than CD's...
For some reason i though vinyls would be more expensive..don't ask me why...
That's pretty cool though!!

This is my theory on vinyl costing less than CDs,

Only collectors and DJs use vinyl. Unfortunately, both these catorgories mean that the owners have up to zillions of them, each being singles. The record companies keep their prices down so you buy more. In fairness, if you've got turntables - you won't be able to keep yourself from the record shop.

CD buyers on the other hand go from being 10 year old kids who buy "daphne and celeste" right up to the DJ / collector types who buy albums. The record industry can keep the CD prices high cos they know that the 10 year old kids arent gonna stop buying CDs so the demand is high.

This may be total shit but I think it makes sense.

p.s, i've seen some really rare tracks being sold on vinyl for well over 100 wich equates to about $65 - $70. That's just what i've seen, imagine what they could be sold for

dj diablo i think you got your math wrong 100 pounds cost about $150 in US. yeh rare records do cost alot of money! i have gotten couple of old records. it depends what you want!

What the hell do you mean, 'vinyl is cheaper than CDs'???
Who told you this nonsense??

When I buy a CD I get about 12 tracks for the price of $15-18...
When I buy vinyl, I get 1 song (even if there are several remixes) for $10...

Now, can you expect to commonly use the vinyl that you bought?
Can you play it in your car, take it with you to the gym, etc.?

In addition to vinyl being extremely expensive, it also has limited use... the vinyl industry today, I think, exists solely for the DJ's. There aren't all that many old-skool 'collectors' who buy trance, are there? think about it...

Sorry, I know my maths was wrong on that one, I didn't really read what I was writing!

You've gotta remember that vinyl is sold to a select market. The prices need to be kept reasonable so that these people keep buying them. You gotta admit, none of us is made of money.

I take in what u say guys, perhaps I was wrong in the broad sense of things. I'm sure I knew what I was writing tho (i was a little under the influence ) .

I do agree with u

Forgive me; but what is an LP record?

LP = Long Play basicly an Album on a 12inch Vinyl played at 33.3rpm

Single = typically a 2 or 3 track vinyl which can be on a 7inch or a 12inch, before CD the 7 inch single was the most popular being equivalent to a radio edit track on a cd single today.
Nowadays the 12inch single is the most popular, i have not seen a 7 inch single on sale for years . . .

EP = Extended Play - used to be a 10inch vinyl with 4 to 6 tracks on it but again nowadays is typically on a 12inch vinyl.

With the design of vinyl u also had 2 speeds at which to play them
Single's and EP's at 45 rpm
LP's or albums at 33.3 rpm.

Depending on the length of a track 12inch singles can be played at either 45rpm or 33.3rpm

hope that helps a bit

Peace

THanks Wicked Neo...
I always wondered what the different speeds were for!
