mixing mistakes/problems
was in little party with the friends...and the dj start to play some music, after 1 hour , while he's mixing, he did something wrong and the beats doesn't match for like a minute...the guy didn't know what to do...if turn the music off or keep going with the shitty mix...so keep the music and everybody says..."buuuuuu" "you suck".
i think it was his first time or something was wrong ...coz' all night long he did a shitty mix and looks so nervous.
anyway...post the mistakes/problems that have you seen either an amateur dj or a big dj.
well trainwrecking is the most common, and is also what you witnessed...they just cant mix
I almost yelled at Marco V to pitch-up when I saw him, but he fixed it before I could. The rest of his set was spot-on. The only other person that I've seen live that had serious problems was Oakey, and I don't want to get started on that.
or wahtever that looked embarassing like djs falls, drunk djs, someone get nude, etc.
i remember when sasha throw a vinyl to the crowd and hit in the face of a girl.

At godskitchen last year it got raided but some english fucks, so at peak our they just shut off all the music, turned on all the lights, and kicked the 'intruders' out, and hardwick was put into a safety room.

I used to go to DnB raves and witnessed more than once speakers blowing off.
fucking evil!!
I saw sasha and digweed at a place called "The crystal ballroom" in portland Oregon. The floor bounces and when the floor bounces so does the needle. The fixed it while mixing and it went on perfectly for the rest of the night
like the above person said though, most the trainwrecks i have seen is faulty equipment.
thats why i think the idea of being a DJ and having to play live sucks. Why can't artists be respected if they just make music and don't play live?
like Vrahnos said, shit happens! I will say this though, a lot of people at a club won't even notice a small trainwreck, but if it wrecks for longer periods of time and happens time after time, it will get ugly.
Most of them don't know what its like to play in front of 1000 club go'ers. Nerves do play a big factor. Every time I've played in front of a big crowd (over 1000), my hands tremble when i put the 1st record on. But once that happens it all starts flowing.
I have a very close DJ friend who will remain nameless who had a huge mistake about a year or so ago. She was playing at a huge huge show, i'd say atleast 5,000 people and she accidentally lifted the needle up...................off the record that was playing
talk about a vibekiller. Imagine 5,000 people going "ohhhhhhhhhhh" after you just lifted a needle off the wrong record resulting in no sound what so ever.

I have seen one DJ playing with only one player, because he was so drunk (or on x) he didn't manage to play with two players. He asked me how to use the mixer, too many knobs he hadn't seen before.. I think his DJ career ended that night

).Yeah it's kind of embarassing but shit happens, the point is to win the crowd after that.I was lucky enough to win it and they enjoyed both the mixing (after that shit
) and the tunes themselves. After all we are humans and we make mistakes. The point is not to freeze and correct them ASAP
ive seen dave seaman trainwreck twice in the same set
and once while i was playing, the CD kept on skipping at the end of the track (the part where im supposed to start mixing) so obviously it was impossible to beatmatch
what i did was, i stopped the track that was playing then i played Sontec - Black Sun and of course the crowd went wild
tracks with a dope intro r always handy when shit like that happens

Remember seeing Yoji play in a fairly small club last year and the crowd was pushed up against the stage on which he was spinning causing the tracks to skip quite a lot. He wasnt at all impressed and stopped the music a few times telling the crowd to move away from the decks. |
at Tisto In Concert 2 in the Ethias Arena Hasselt, the sound system had some kind of failure, and the music stopped in the middle of Skin - Faithfulness (DJ Tisto Remix) for almost 3 minutes!
Tisto was turned with his back to the booth (choosing next record i think), and when the music dropped out, he turned around and was like huh?
now that was funny shit
well, MC Stretch managed the silence very well, by letting the crowd sing "Seven Nation Army" of the White Stripes al together

| Originally posted by vrahnos shit happens... it happens to everyone... from what you're saying, i guess, that the first hour was ok....if he was an amateur you'd noticed it from the first transition! i hate ppl who dont know shit about djing and yelling "buuuuuu" "you suck" etc... those stupid fucks think that every bad-in-the-ear sound is dj's fault...fuckin ignorants... my opinion: something was wrong, because he played fine for 1 hour, maybe the cd player skiped, that's enough to fuck up your beatmatch and your mood.... btw, download the mayday 2000 video (paul van dyk's set)...and see how nervous he is...he did a great mix!!! |
