My first GIG

Well it was saturday night at my cousins graduation party in Daytona. She asked me to bring my turntable to play some dance music. I own a crappy $99 belt driven turntable to hold me over until I get better stuff, but I brought it over anyways. When I got there I found out one of my cousins who owns a bunch of audio stuff was coming. I asked him to bring his Numark CD mixer, you know one of those all in one consoles. He agreed and came with the stuff. Took us forever to hook it all up right but soon I was ready.

First off the mixer was absolute shit. The pitch was only in increments of .1 and there was only one EQ which affected both channels, so bascially I could only beatmach as well as I could and slide the fader over. So I played dance for about half an hour before of course everyone was telling me to put salsa. So I did that for about an hour and had them dancing like crazy haha. Then this DAMN KID. He was about 9 years old and for some reason it was like he was put on this earth to kill my needle. He kept on trying to scratch on the turntable I had off to the side earlier, and he just went at that damn thing. I kept him away but his fucking parents kept telling me to be nice.

The rest of the night after that I just enjoyed the party but it was definatly the funnest time I've had since I went to Ultra. At the end of the night my turntable survived and my records which were nearly destroyed by the kid, but the needle was shot. So here I am today wanting to do it all over again and being happy becasue now I have an excuse to go out and buy a whitelabel cart tomorrow

Haha, wow and wow.

You dont think I want some techs? I'm saving up for some right now. And I played at my cousins graduation party in Daytona as it says in the first sentence.

we threw a house party last yera at a buddies, real mixed crowd, from 15-19, 20 years old, pretty cracy party, and at about 1:30, after i finished my set, a freind got on, and there was some technical issue, then this lil ****** started touching the record like he was king shit.

i pushed him away from the console, looked right in his eyes, and told him never to do it again. the kid learned considerig im over 6 feet and he was just over 5 haha.. it was funny tho.. no one touched the records after that.

crude way of enforcement, but it worked.

that was a fun night, i rocked out all the classics.

yeah i have even had my friends (17yr) trying to scratch while i was djing live with that song on the main speakers, everyone kept on doing it. you would believe it but he put his arm over because it is a high dj booth and he doesnt know there is a tone arm, so what does he do? he puts his arm pressure fully on the tip of the neddle, fucking up my song remy &RK - fearless. somehow the needle was fine.

dumb people tend to be like that. tip: decks at school, bad idea. the chicks always dig them, and even though it may get annoying, they'll at least always ask, for the most part, before touching anything.

the idiot males, however, will keep trying to go for the record/platter, despite how many times you can slap their hands or tell them to stop. i nearly got into a fight once when this fool stuck his hand on the record, knocking the Ortofon Nightclub off. worst of all, it was a friend's deck/needle, which is what made me the most pissed.

man, fuk all that noise... i dont have any patience for tards playing around with my gear. neither should you. id have packed up and left as soon as efforts to secure my gear failed. kids are a nono at parties anyways, we throw kids out before they get to hear a full phrase of beats. too much liability for us, too dangerous for them.

you should adopt that attitude well before you get some techs.

and also, another reason doing "gigs" for family and disrespectful friends is a nono -- they think they can push you around. salsa.. lol puh-leez.

A few months ago I had a gathering at my place... I was playin whatever and it wasnt that well recieved, but I didnt care becuase they were my records in my pad.. anyways.... Id be in the middle of beatmatching or beginning to mix the next track in, and this chick kept doin little scratches and screwed me up 10x.

Its times like that you need the shirt that says 'fck off, im mixing'

a row of cinder blocks about 2-3 feet in front of the decks = a wonderful thing!

I did a similiar thing at a friend's party...
