German Trance?

I want to get a collection of German trance from the very beginning to modern day. Any favorite or monumental tracks or albums I should get? Any information is greatly appreciated.

For albums, anything by LSG is an absolute must!!! The guy is a legend - his music will blow your socks off!

As stated above, check LSG. In fact, check everything by Oliver Lieb (wether it be under his own name, LSG, Paragliders, Spicelab or other).
Also check out early Harthouse and Eye Q releases.

LSG and paragliders, (and his self named remixes) are good stuff and all, but spicelab was where the "monumental" stuff took place, as in he took classic trance formula and experimented with it, taking it to a level as yet unsurpassed by anyone.

Paul van Dyk- Seven Ways is a great album, and it was made before PVD adopted his now trademark sound, so it sounds very different to what you'd expect from him.

most of the experimentation went on in the tracks he put on the three spicelab albums. most of his other spicelab tracks/remixes are just decent to excellent classic trance. and 56387 is just badly produced...something. maybe it was supposed to sound like that, but it just sounds really poorly produced to me.

and anything after 1995 under that name is just your standard loopy techno which was becoming more popular at the time. not bad i guess, but not nearly as groundbreaking or original as previous stuff he made...

These are good tips! Anything else? Particularily old stuff--I know about PVD of course, but I'm only 17 so a lot of the early trance was happening around the time I was born...

You want essential German Trance? Then check out this label:

The second 12" released on the label was the Dance 2 Trance EP, which featured We Came In Peace. Whether it was the first true trance track or not may be debatable, but the sound it created had a major influence on the sound Suck Me Plasma continued to produce. Komakino, Norman Feller, Aqualite, and many others cut their teeth on this label early in their careers.

Also, the parent label, Music Research, is essential material as well:

The American Label, Hypnotic, released a large number of Music Research material in the early-mid 90's as well:
