Anti-laptop??
Hey guys, I'm just starting to get into DJing and I know that most famous DJs use vinyl. Are any of you guys against PC-DJing? Why or why not?
The only reason I would like to laptop DJ more than vinyl is that you wouldnt have to lug around 800 records, you can have all on a 5lb external hardrive. Discuss, please.
Definately think laptop djing provides you some benefits but it also provides some negatives. Not nearly the control that you would get with vinyl but its up to you.
unless you are doing something very creative, or you are using a product like Final Scratch, I dont think people warm up to laptop dj's.
can be quiet boring watching a DJ use only a laptop altho applications such as apelton live are adding to the performance rather than taking away
I think besids the whole argument of sound quality or controlability their is the factor of image. I hate going to parties and seing someone stand behind a laptop, it just gives me the impression they are just someone who is djing coz they think its cool and they have no clue how to dj properly. Sorry if that ofended anyone but the amount people around here who just get laptops and try mix their favorite rapsong with sandstorm

It really comes down to what you intend to do with it.
There is nothing wrong with laptop DJing and ok, perhaps it doesn't look as exciting as a DJ because we haven't yet adjusted to this image of a DJ in our minds. It will come in time, think of it like this... I was born and part of my childhood was spent living in a world where a remote control for a TV had never been heard of. If you wanted to change the channel we got up and did it. In this day and age you woudln't think twice about looking at a TV remote and there are generations that just have not lived in such a world.
The same goes for our perception of a DJ.
If the DJ plays the right tracks he should be able to blow you away whatever method he uses.
If he sucks trying to mix 50 cent with Sandstorm then he would suck about 50 times worse on a set of 1210s than any laptop. Ultimately though, it's not the medium that he uses, it's his understanding of music that's at fault.
I DJ on a regular basis in clubs and from time to time you see a DJ with a lap top. Sometimes they are excellent, and sometimes they suck, just like vinyl jocks.
It all comes down to your understanding of music no matter how you want to look at it. DJing tricks can be learned through practice but music comes from within.
If you want to DJ using a lap top then by all means do so. But do consider the other options too as you may well find something that you will appreciate for the rest of your life.
Open your mind to all aspects of DJing and music.
Cheers
Nem
It's not the medium that counts it's the output. That's all folks!
or you can be a complete phoney, steal somebody's mix, and pretending your doing it yourself...heh...i actually think i heard of something like that happening somewhere in spain or something of the sort
