Your Equipment

What do you use besides your normal two turntables and your mixer?
becoz i am considering buying a 3rd turntable to make my sets a little more interesting and make me stand out a lil bit more.
What do you think?

PEACE

a 3rd turntable is always a sound investment in my books. even if you play straight tune to tune, having that 3rd deck opens up possibilites for you as well as making your mixing quicker. you can 'queue' your tracks up as it were, meaning that you won't have to wait for one record to finish before cracking on beatmatching the next. a 3 channel mixer is a must though, you wouldn't want to limit your possibilities.

another thing to consider is a CD deck. if you are on a budget, even though they generally cost more than a single turntable, they are a great idea. cheap CD decks are better than cheap turntables, plus it will save you money on media as you won't have to buy records all the time, mp3's are much much cheaper to buy. its also handy having the knowledge of a CD deck, that way you won't be non-plussed should one be put in front of you later down the line.

as well as 3 decks and a CD deck, i also have an FX unit, which is massive amounts of fun! your mixer may already have one built in, but having a stand-alone FX unit is always so much better. always concentrate on your mixing though, before twatting around with FX. there is nothing worse than hearing a set with loads of FX in it, but the person can't mix for shit.

thanks for that,
what fx unit do you use?

God I'd love one of those. Eventually I would like to add two CD decks and an effects processor to my two-table setup, but as said by tu_face, a multi-channel mixer is a must in that case.

By the way, how do you like the efx500?

i'd say go with a cd deck or two, just cuz your music library will increase hella... it's so cheap and easy to buy digital singles nowadays...

can't go wrong with more vinyl though!

oh yeah to answer your question. along with my decks i use FL studio to create extra samples such as... different cymbal loops/buildups and the like. and then just throw them over the track using traktor. just cause i'm too poor to buy a cdj-1000

the efx500 is a great bit of kit. very user friendly and very easy to use for both production and djing. the user interface is second to none. i wish i could afford a 1000 though

i just got my third turntable and serato. its a great combination for me cuz now i can use serato to drop in a loop or vocal on one turntable in the middle of mixing with the other 2. i also got the rotary kit for my PCV275 which i havent had time to install yet.

Hey Vero ^^

I'm just very curious about the Other reasons you got serato and a 3rd TT; 'cause for loop/vocal droping a cdj was a very easier and cheaper way to go.
I guess you're going fully digital??
