recording from decks to computer

hey peoples, just wanting a hand. been mixing for a while, but never been able to record it. can someone give me a hand by explaing how i can record this on my computer, i'm not entirely illiterate, just not sure which cables go to which sockets. any help is appreciated. thx

well i never done it before seeing as how i dont dj but i think basically you have a cable from the output socket of the mixer to the input socket on your computer soundcard and have some program going to record like cool edit pro or soundforge or something. hope that helps

Yeh, that's basically it Philbsta. Typically, your mixer would have Left (white or black) and Right (red) "RCA" sockets, and your pc will have various colour coded 3.5m phono sockets. The pale blue one is typically the "line in" (input) socket. Unless your motherboard manufacturer has some crappy auto detect technology which reconfigures that to be a surround output or some sh!t (let's hope not). Anyway.. you can find a good software recording solution for little or no cash here: www.kvraudio.com

Happy recording

edit: just found this lil sucker on kvr-

also when i set up my decks to computer with final scratch and recording etc i always had ground loops, dirty hissing noises! anyways I found this car line in isolator thing, basically common grounds all components and gets rid of the buzzing noise... works for the mixer, just plugs between your mixer out and line in on your computer

jaycar ground loop remover

I use and love this little fella

Xitel InPort USB

Its good cos its USB, you can use any recording program you want, and it bypasses your soundcard (which is good if you use a laptop or crappy soundcard)
Good sound quality too.
RCA outs from your mixer into the gizmo, which then goes into your USB on the comp, easy peasy

Worth the money, I like it
