HUGE Saw Synth in Reason

ok, i've already searched "saw sound" and "reason" and haven't found what i was looking for so don't "flame" me or whatever....

I want the huge trance saw sound.....even if i never use it wanna know how to build it.....would you layer many saws and eq them, is there a really good patch to start with?.....if so from what refill and where is it available.....is it effects?.....ie a really buzzy annoying little saw can be made all huge by really wet deep rvb?....think ron van den buken (tons of reverb yet really clean and huge, great arena sound.)

anyways, what do you think?

awesome but maybe lets have some disscussion about building one from the ground up. Like which ossilators to use, how to tune them, any LFO use, fxs etc?....

it's pretty easy if you only think it through a little

you use the two malstroms for the thickness in the sound, use the sawtooth*16 samples from it.
Then play around with the shift knob and the index slider untill you get the desired sound from that instance of the malstrom. The important thing is that you don't get that typical unisonsound wich sounds very wet (can't explain it better, just try putting a unison with full wettness on and you'll get what I mean )

then to give the sound it's edge you put in a subtractor with 2 saws. The subtractor has a very characteristic sound in it's high frequencies, this is why you put the sub in there instead of a third malstrom.

Then all you have left is the EQ part (and compression if you're going to use it in a production)

Just use your ears for eqing and you'll hear what's right and not, it's really easy if you just play around a little.

what I think is really funny with that rps file is that it has so much crap in it, it has like 3 or 4 units wich isn't even used or connected with the malstrom and sub units
it's 100% messy when it comes to connectiong the devices

excallant feedback Vizay. so you would say doubling the lines is the way to go huh? I've been reluctant to do that becuz I don't like phase issues or doubled harmionic ranges which can cause peaking....

but i guess like you said it's all about the eqing, compression, and i'm sure some panning....

very nice.

do you use any reverb, or like other effects once the dry sound is well established? maybe a delay with a real tight setting. so you don't like the unison is that what I'm hearing???

thanks again.

I made a Supersaw once with 4 Subtractors. It took me a while to get it to sound right by experimenting with the detuning but eventually I got it right and it sounded pretty convincing.

is this what you're looking for? (SAMPLE HERE)

I made it in a few minutes in Reason with 4 subs...and a malstrom...quite ok...not sure if it's great or even convincing though...anyway if you want the combipatch or rns file just tell me

Here's my try of making a Saw-sound.

Sample: http://www.lnctv.com/~a41154a/samples/saw.mp3

And with some beats to it: http://www.lnctv.com/~a41154a/sampl...th%20Remix).mp3

danne that was really wicked....what did you use?

Posted by Danne__85 on Jun-14-2005 10:26:

1 Subtractor's and 2 Malstrom's (in Reason).

What does "wicked" means? ain't good in english.

Edit: I made a little change in my sample. Added a filter-change and another part.

Nice, thanks airbase

danne wicked means something like "galet" or "grymt"

I'll create a combipatch later today just for fun that I can share with you if it turns out well

Posted by Vizay on Jun-16-2005 15:34:

okay folks, I've got some candy for ya now

first of all here's an mp3demo you can download that shows what this combinator patch can do

Sound demo

and here's the combinator patch and the whole reasonfile including the melodies

Combinator patch
reason roject file

did this all from scratch in about 2-3 hours. ohh and let me just state one thing, my goal wasn't to get a perfect clone of all theese melodies, they just worked out good with the patch

enjoy

PS. watch your ears, it'll probably clip like hell in reason, didn't bother to use a compressor on the whole package

congrats to everyone who contributed some sounds to this thread.

Really nice supersaws in there...

all with Reason wow...I remember how I hated subtractor

I wonder what you all could do if you had real studio with some JP 8000, Virus, Nord Lead gear...you even could create a Hypersaw (without a TI) I guess.
