"free reign" by Kingdom Age
EDIT: this thread is really old and has been hijacked from its' original discussion. Please go review another artist's song
I re-did my song "free reign" and it has been picked up by a record company (deepsink) after submiting it in a contest. I was trying to re-create that classic rave sound with elements of trance in it.
You can listen to it at one of these two places:

any feedback is welcome
oh, and I'm giving away 2 free copies of the trance compilation it will appear on. The best way to stay updated on this is to visit my site and sign up for the e-mail newsletter:

I really appreciate the support that some of you have given me

I am going to check it out and it better be damn good; just because a record label picks it up does not mean it is worth it. Hell, must record labels pick up the crap that keeps giving trance a bad name and image.
Just what I expected. Sorry, brother, but my opinion is that it sounds like ordinary cheese. There is nothing spectacular about the track. As a matter of fact, I had to listen to it against my will because the instruments used are extremely annoying. The structure is all over the place and it does not have any drive to it. Anyway, congratulations on the label deal.
Well produced and mixed, but I really lost interest after 1:50. Although there are interesting elements present, the whole doesn't seem to tell a story.
Not in favor of the intro synths at all, kick is weak and it's repetive (at least the sample is, I dunno about the rest).
And it's empty! fill up the freq's man
I'm sorry, but I didn't like this much as it sounds rather lifeless to me. congrats though
i agree with most of the comments here, got bored after 1:30, sorry to offend you but this kind of trance sums up the sterotypes and is the reason people get mixed up between techno and trance. but congratulations on getting signed anyway.
Hm I'm wondering what arguments this company has on signing this. And the Osmotic Wave "all christian" policy gives me the creeps. And I don't like the track either. Poor mixing and the buildup is even worse.
I'd suggest just posting the name of the track as thread title in stead of "accepted by record company".
Depens on which record company. I once found a record company a friend sead I would easily get into. Went to their site and found out they had accepted about 10.000 producers, half of wich were total crap.
I'd rather have to try a bit harder for a label at Black Hole or Byte records than to sign for these guys. My advice would be to produce, produce, produce, produce, produce, produce, produce.... I once spent 30 hours a week producing for about 6 months and learnt so much!
Anyway, keep going as you are, musicaly it's not all that bad at all.
Check me out on the following link.

Sorry just didnt like it at all...found it to be poorly mastered, levels were wrong, and overall very cheesey
sorry mate!
Shep
and where did you got accepted? what was =the name of that company

I have to say that this sound is something different that ***I*** normally listen to and/or produce (if that matters),
now what intrigued me, made me curious about the track is that you stated "A lot of people have said that it sounds like nothing they've ever heard before."
Now right after I read that I was anticipating something amazing, killer buildup, great unique lead, great mixing, etc, imo, not quite, not yet.
Congrats on getting signed though,
Just keep on producing and practicing as much as you can to get to that "nothing they've heard before" sound.
Overall im not impressed with this track compared to the hype it had behind it.
Maybe the label and you plan to completely overhaul the track, rework it, etc to make it a killer tune ?
-Kenidel Lopez
HOW FUCKING BULLSHIT
I didn't check the tune , but just because someone said hear my track because it got signed it gets 10 replies in 1 day!!
While there are people who review allot and don't even get 5 replies in totall.
Piece of crap this forum has become.
ok, you cn also mybe be happy for the guy

It's been bothering me for quite some time that the bad and sometimes arrgant naming of threads really gives a bad taste to the tunes inside them. Be wise and don't tell us you have a killer track while it's total crap. Although that's not fully the case here, as Adambomb is telling no lie about this record company deal .. but it must not be in the name of the thread because of expectations people have and are misled by this bad chosen name. *edit* Ok I started a thread on this, please join the discussion on naming of threads in this thread |

Hey. I just listened to the song. I'm not going to bother posting a review on this since u didnt bother asking for one. My personal opinion on this track isnt all that high, mainly because of your hype over the song. This track honestly sounds like something I produced 3 to 4 years ago. Now, I'm not trying to diss you but I find it unfortunate that the label signed you, what im guessing, early in your composing career. I'm afraid they have partially ruined your future potential at progressing and that youll continue to try to make similar music. It really isnt that bad, but trust me when I say, progress with your sound. If you dont, you will find it very hard to get signed and if this release doesnt sell well through this label who signed you, they most likely arent going to invest any more money in having your music.
If you get nothign else from this post though, understand this; dont let labels sign everything you produce. You should post it here, have it reviewed by those of us that have been composing for a long time and/or are employees at labels; we do exist on this forum
. Please though, dont think I'm typing this to bash you here. You do have some decent sounds in your song. Its nothing I havent heard or produced before myself, but that means you are on the right track for a better sound. Keep it up and you might end up in a better label but until you have a post from someone on this forum saying its gonna be a smash hit, dont expect it to be
.
Cheers,
Zac
Yeah, when I read that it was signed by a label, I felt a deja-vu coming, hehe. I usually get interested by threads with humble titles like "something I'm working on...need opinions". Usually, it's a professional sounding track with a lot of potential. I made the exception with this one. I barely produce but I can say, my early stuff two years ago had more life than this track. Not to be rude...just constructive criti-whatever. =oP

BUT, u are in TA, where u will look noob claiming u have a super hit, the part where u are giving copys for free is pretty tender actually *YAY*. The peep that post tracks at TA it's used to listen to some really amazing tracks here usually, so when someone comes and claims he, she has da bomb and the track it's pretty average, well, u know what hapenns :P: I would like o apologise if I sounded too grouchy or mean with my last post, but dude, u should come here more often and to check out the great stuff some peep post here with a simply: Hey, I am working on this track, tell em what ya think .Anyway, who am I to critiquise, I dont even Produce Trance, lol ... :P Good Luck with ur Music . sorry if I dissapointed some of you. I personally don't believe this track is a "super hit." Everyone here is actually a lot nicer than some other trance forums that commented on the track, lol Thanks for at least being happy for me
I apologize for drawing too much attention from the thread title. I was just stating what I felt (I was excited. It's like when you get some new toy and you want to call your friends up so you can all play with it) and I didn't mean to hog the forum. I agree that many other artists on here deserve a lot more replies and feedback than I do. I was just excited that I finally got one of my songs published. I was in no way trying to act better than anyone.
One thing I want to make clear is that I am not signed to the label. I won a contest that they had to be on their trance compilation. Just that song will be on it and I am not even getting paid for it. The two free copies that I am giving away will come out of my own pocket. I believe in giving music to people for free that enjoy it but I also believe that if you want to make a career out of music production, that promotion and being signed to a label is neccessary. I support lables that are honest and want to support artists and I also support the listener.
This wasn't meant to be a pure trance song and the part that some people said was original was the ending in that clip. The entire song isn't posted. The whole thing is actually 12:08 and the place I uploaded it wouldn't let me give the whole version cause it was so long. On the full chorus it uses every frequency you can imagine. This part of the song is very minimal because it is supposed to be a break from the psycho/high energy chorus. The mastered version also has the kick completely replaced, the song is stereo enhanced, and other tricks were done to the final version so don't think it will sound poorly mastered. If you heard the whole song, you would be able to understand the structure; it's not like most songs.
If you listened to any of the other songs on there, they are about 2-3 years old and I agree with what was said about the production quality. I now have NI Komplete2, high-end VSTs, real orchestra samples, and will be switching to cubase SX3 soon while still using FLstudio 5. So you can imagine how they will sound when they are completed... much better... I'm always growing in my production quality too.
This track, "free reign," was supposed to bring back some of that old school rave sound that I miss and a mix of other genres. What genre would you classify it as? maybe I should lean more towards the hardcore, EBM, industrial genres. I like mixing different types though and trying to come up with something knew. I don't always like modeling after the same things that have already been made. I am still searching and trying to find "my sound" if you know what I mean.
Well, hopefully someone enjoyed it and I really appreciate the feedback! I like people who are honest! I'm always looking to see ways to improve. Hopefully I can post another song in a few months that most of you can enjoy
thanks again for all the advice!! and by all means, review! I need all the feedback I can get to become better so I can make songs that you guys like and can enjoy! I enjoy making music for people
nhibberd, thanks I'm glad you liked the melody. I enjoyed your songs
I don't usually like rap, but it was cool hearing it in dutch
Takkra, the track was accepted by lowroof records (http://www.lowroof.nl/). The subdivision trance line is called "deepsink." The trance compilation that the song will be on is called "osmotic pressure." There are a lot of much more experienced producers on there than me that I'm sure you would all enjoy.
Kenidel Lopez, that's cool you listen to this type of genre! I'd like to listen to some of your tracks. Thanks for your encouragement
kopi_luwak, I think you heard the wrong song cause I'm pretty sure the slayer isn't in that old version that is posted. The song I was talking about is not the one that starts playing on http://www.myspace.com/kingdomage "battle realms" is like 3 years old and is being completely re-done.
It's ok, no need to apologize. I totally know what you mean. When I first posted about the track, the title was something like you stated.
I still think I'm a newb and have a ways to go. I'm just glad I'm at a point now where some songs I make can be enjoyed by other people.
IDarkISwordI, I would enjoy a review by you
I don't feel dissed. Thanks for the feedback you've given already!! I really appreciate that kind of concern you've shown and watching my back!! I will definately continue to post songs here to be reviewed. Everyone is very nice here compared to a lot of other forums
RiCo, i accept all constructive criticism, especially if it is negative because that means I can improve on something and get better! thanks
Hey man, sorry for all the shit, honestly ur track it's pretty good, hehehe, damn, I am an ass sometimes, but u acted cool at the end
.
Good attitude, and some work more and u will be on the top soon
.
Kopi =O.
I agree with the others in that your track isn't up par with professional productions, but I think you've got potential. Just keep at it.
