Randomizing presets

Anyone else in here who uses this technique? Some vst's generate crappy presets in 99% of the time when randomizing, but there are some which give awsome & original presets in like 20% of the cases...

These are the vst's which give good randomized sounds:
- Synapse Hydra (be careful not to blow up your speakers!!)
- FL Drumsynth Live (some original perc sounds) (not a vst)
- Synapse Scorpion
- Imposcar (be careful not to blow up your speakers!!)
- Polysix (part of korg legacy collection)

Of course you can tweak the sounds afterwards to fit them to your tracks

- Do you guys know any more synths in which this technique succeeds?
- Do any of you guys do this too?
- Is this cheating?

The sysex editor i use for my FM (frequency modulation- yamahas) synths and modules has a randomise function.... hit or miss but it can often give a good basis for some further editing of the random.

I think they put it in as most people dont have a clue how to program FM

Did your mom teach you math?

Linplug Albino achieves some good results when randomizing, it even has an integrated randomize-button you can make rather small random changes... But you have to watch out for your speakers as well, sometimes it exceeds the limits.

BTW.

Do you guys think presets are cheating?

I'm sure this has been done over and over many times and i used the searach function so haha.

I think many people uses presets as a base, and then tweak them as they want or need to get away from that basic preset sound.

I rarely use randomize though, it never produces anything good for me so I say screw it I'm not lucky enough

I ususally randomise Crystal to get wierd background noises. Have to do it about 50 times to get anything to work with and tweak it from there.

Hehe yeah, i must admit its a lottery.

Its not likely Armin van Buuren opens 40 instances of V-Station, Pro-53 and Z3ta and randomizes all their presets and notes and comes up with Shivers...
