Dunno Ever recreated a melody that you've never heard before?

Ok, I need to make the topic clear.

I just finished a new tune, and about 3 hours later, I found that exact melody I had created being played on Digitally Imported radio. I got freaked out, cause I knew I wasn't making a remix of a song, I made this melody from my own head, and I can't remember anywhere that I heard this melody before.

But now that I finished it, and it might be one of my best tunes so far (I'm still quite new to producing btw)... I feel stupid (and sad) because it already exists lol. I have no idea what the original song is named, so I if I were to call this song a remix I have no idea what to name it

What would you do in my situation? has the same thing ever happened to you? There are endless ways of creating a melody, so I must unconsciously have heard it before?

In either case, if you know the name of the original song, here's a sample of "mine version" that was supposed to be my original song lol. The melody I'm talking about comes in at 0:55. It was made in FL Studio.

That sucks.

Allen, extremely genius and constructive comment. Please, could you enlighten us all with your words of wisdom?

Anyways, aside from the arrogance from the previous post I have heard this melody somewhere too, maybe not exactly the same but i heard something VERY similar. I like it, althoguth you have loads of clipping problems, sounds like the kick is being masked and mixed with other frequencies from the bass and what not. The synth itself could use some warmth and tone down on the brightness of that synth.

i got really close to a couple melodies.

Its really frustrating when you think you got something just to realise you could have made a fool out of your self.

"hey i made this new tune"

"is it a remix"

"no"

"well....you got the melody from himandher - flyinghighblablabla"

"no i didnt"

"yes you did you little leech"

and so on.

Happened to me once as well. I wrote the track Monday P.M. in early 2002. The year after, the movie SWAT hits the cinemas, and the main theme is the same melody. One hell of a coincidence was my thought, as I knew I wrote the melody myself a late night way back. Then I hear there was a TV show of SWAT from the 70ies or something, which has that theme, and people started accusing me of stealing the melody from there. No one cared I had never seen, nor heard of the show before the Movie got out.

Well, that just proves that things like that CAN happen!

I did this with a tune I was loving and got so annoyed I just deleted it!

That just tells you how we are running out of melodies in the world. Little guys are becoming endangered species. It has happened to me also, so this problem is VERY real. It is really frustrating. Now, what frustrates me most is when I am having a dream and this OUT OF THIS WORLD track is playing in the background and in the dream I know I have to wake up to write the notes. When I wake up, my brain flushes the melody so the only thing I know is that it was awesome but now it is gone forever.

Nice to know that I'm not alone. But what made me most surprised was the fact that I heard the melody only three hours after it was finished... strange.

Anyway, I'm gonna scrap this. I didn't intend to make a remix of a track I've never heard before. Maybe I'll take out some elements to make something new from it.
Thanks for the feedback jupiterone, although I never asked for it now that you mention it, I do hear what's wrong with it. I think I spent too much time without a break while making it so missed out important parts in it.

I'm pissed off, but life goes on

I have that same problem. It's like you know the song played in your dream was the most hot amazing and incredible tune you will ever hear. And then you just forget what it sounded like. Damn frustrating.

Ialso think this to myself in the dream:

"wake UP goddamnit!"

PS: r u a Lucid dreamer?

Posted by RiCo on Jun-14-2005 23:25:

I lost my "lucidness" a while ago. I used to be really good at it when I was growing up but now, I can only do it a couple of times per quarter. But when I dream of a track, I am only a bit conscious in the dream...I still cannot control anything...I just know that the track is awesome because my brain knows I've been musical all my life, hehe. And usually, the dream involves something very sentimental and it is very real...usually, there is a beautiful woman I have never seen and I fall in love with her in the dream and when I wake up, I miss her and feel sad that I will never see her again and that I will forget her face eventually.
So for you teens out there, we adults also have cool dreams, LOL.

Are you lucid?

Posted by PutBoy on Jun-14-2005 23:40:

practicing it. But I'm getting there I hope. Have had 3 lucid dream the last 6 or so months, and it's darn amazing.

If you're losing your lucidity I got a great site for you: www.dreamviews.com, if you don't know it already. I think they got tutorials there on how to get your lucidity back, or something. Great site on lucid dreaming.

Its so nice to hear other people have those sorts of dreams too! I have a dream like that almost every night. I'm always really depressed in the mornings when I wake up and realise that it's not real.

I dream music as well, but its almost always classical orchestral music which is wierd as I only listen to that occasionally - nothing compared to how much trance i listen to. Fanfares and shit.

I think I'm semi-lucid. I can control what I'm doing but I don't know its a dream. Check out www.dreamjournal.org if u want info on dreams or wanna record them. Its pretty cool if u like remembering your fav dreams.

I dont think there is a copyright to a melody.... There are only soo man notes there are bound to be 1000000's of ones similar...

I've had dreams like that several times. Every time I wake up I just get so frustrated and mad that I can't remember ANYTHING from the track, I just knew that It was like the best thing I've heard. :P (Just As U said)

I think that it's all about some kind of boundarie in the most of us that keeps us from getting in touch with our true selfs and really listen to our musical feelings and thoughts when u're awake. Because when we are in that dream state, we're totaly relaxed and in touch with our true feelings. Then we wake up, look around in the room, seeing things emediatly and start accociating to things and we start thinking about everything that u're gonna to today and so on, It isn't that weird after all that we forget these "Dream-melodies"..
Maybe U think what I say is true bullshit, maybe not. But I think there might be a point in what I'm saying. :P
