Need a little help

Haha yeah, so after more than 6 months, i finally decided to pay TOTA a visit - admittedly because i need a little help. I was just quoted $1000/mo for insurance on a 350Z, so it's time to go shopping. What companies are known to have good rates? Or at least better than $1000/mo for a young driver with an expensive car.

Posted by VERTiG0 on Jun-15-2005 03:44:

Don't buy a 350Z?

PS: ING Direct.

PPS: Buy a Mazdaspeed Miata. Cheaper, way more tossable, and insurance is dirt cheap because only old guys buy Miatas and they never crash them or have claims on them. I'm totally serious about this, Miatas are probably THE cheapest car to insure, and the most fun for the money.

Posted by d!abolic on Jun-15-2005 03:53:

Not an option - my goal is the 350Z and that's what i'll get. Mazdaspeed Miatas are nice cars, but that's not what i set out to get.

Hey d!abolic,

I'm a total n00b (only been here for like 3 months) but with all due respect, in the 6 months that you weren't here there were like fifty billion threads about insurance quotes...a simple search for "insurance" will get you tons of info!

Respectfully,
fayraree

Good luck with your rattly interior trim and front camber issues that Nissan ignores

I had the ballsiest time trying to find Karim's damn "Hey don't you post on TA" thread today! LOL

I guess I'm not as affluent at searching as you and Fay.

If you can afford that ride then you can afford the Insurance!

Please to listen to the insurance insider!

If you're a male under 25 and not married driving a sports car in Toronto..... You're fucked! No matter what insurance company you go with your rates are going to be high. My advice to you would be to visit several independant insurance brokers (because they don't work for any one insurance company they have the ability to comparison shop for you). The independant broker will take your information and get quotes from a number of different insurers.

Typically, Citidel/Chauteau (a subsiduary of Citidel) and Certas will have the lowest rates. PC Financial has also recently entered into insurance and is giving some decent rates. Unfortunately, you should remember that you get what you pay for and what you save in premium you will likely lose in service should you ever have a claim..... chances are if you're under 25, not married, driving a sports car, and in Toronto you will have a claim (thus why you're gouged on your rates).

The best way, however to lower your rates is to restrict your coverage or increase your deductibles.
As you're a young man and this is an expensive car I presume that you are either leasing or financing it. As such you will not be able to restrict your coverage on collision or comprehensive as they are usually requirements under the lease/finance contract. You could reduce your liability limit.... most insurers will quote you for $1,000,000 liability coverage, however, the minimum required under the law is $200,000. If you decrease your liability you will realize significant savings but remember, if you cause more then $200,000 worth of damage to someone (which is really easy to do if you get into an at fault accident and the other party suffers injuries that prevent them from returning to work) you will be on your own to pay all damages over the $200,000.
I would recommend that you request higher then standard deductibles. The standard now is $500 for collision, $500 for Comprehensive and $0 for Direct Compensation. If you were to go with $1,000 Collision, $1,000 Comprehensive, and $300 Direct Compensation you would get a decent decrease in your premium. However, you if you go this route you need to be able to pay the first $1,000 of any claim yourself (except not at fault accidents... that would only be $300)

Regardless of what company you go with or what coverage/deductibles you choose your rates are going to be high. That's the price you pay for driving a sports car in Toronto.

If you have questions please feel free to ask.

I can't help myself.....this is the end of it though. If you want to see how cheap your insurance can be and which companies provide the cheapest then go to this website and fill out the form. It will give you the three lowest rates and the companies.

You two insurance freaks need to go out and get drunk or something wait a sec...I think you already are!

Posted by Tiesto4Life on Jun-15-2005 21:59:

Just go to this done-in russian place at Dufferin and Steeles. They will issue you insurance papers for $50. I got one! Everytime the cop pulls me over I just show him that piece of paper and I'm fine, even though I'm not insured!! It works believe me. Cops in Canada are dumb donut inspectors. I got pulled over like four times with that piece of fake paper and it works all the time.

^^ When you do get caught eventually you're beyond fucked.
