Infant Daughter Dies as Parents Play Online Game

A thoughtless couple in their 20s who left their four-month old daughter at home while they played Internet computer games at a nearby PC caf have been booked by police after the child died.

According to Incheon Police Station on Tuesday, a 29-year-old man husband identified by his family name of Yu and his wife put their four-month daughter in the bedroom of their home and went to a neighborhood PC caf at around 4:00 p.m. on May 24 to play the online game "World of Warcraft.

Time flew by as the couple lost themselves in the game, and when they returned home at 9:00 p.m., their daughter was lying on her stomach, dead of suffication.

The couple told police, "We were thinking of playing for just an hour or two and returning home like usual, but the game took longer that day."

Police said an investigation turned up that the couple, who wed last year, used to play "World of Warcraft" whenever they had time.

Police said, "It's unfortunate, because the tragedy could have been averted if the couple had just left their daughter with Yu's mother-in-law, who lived upstairs from them... We booked the pair on criminal charges, judging that when you consider the situation, they were responsible for their daughter's death."

Major U.S. online game producer Blizzard, which grew famous with the game "Starcraft", produced the game to which Yu and his wife were addicted, "World of Warcraft." The game allows multiple players to form teams to fight battles and enjoy various adventures.

this has nothing to do with video games or what they were doing.. it's why the hell they possibly thought it was reasonable to leave their child alone for a couple hours

with all these threads... faith in humanity takin a serious hit this week.

MMORPGs are a bane on society.

Which means they have done this more than once, leaving their child there

What parent in their right minds leave their child ANYWHERE unattended!

People like these don't deserve to have children... and to think of all those out there that want them so bad and can't.. what a shame I tell you

I heard things are pretty bad in Incheon.. well South Korea in general when it comes to gaming and online activity. They are practically hooked up to their machines. Now there's the real Matrix.

ya i always find it amusing and ironic how so many ppl who want kids and would be fantastic parents cannot or do not have them, yet you have a million teenage moms out there w/o jobs or very poor jobs and where the father often isnt even in the picture -- yet ppl in these situations abound (well, around here anyways)!

Addiction is a killer.

Honestly, video games should be banned.

Where are those Centre Island residents when you need them?!

+1

It is very unfortunate on whats happening to this world we are all becoming zombies. We sit in front of tv's or in front of these computer screens for hours and hours at a time when we could be doing something useful or healthy instead, hey at least we know when we have a child around us to get offline and pay attention to them.....

Red face

You'd never get away with that in the Sims.

Seriously though, that is a horrible thing to do.

Mine does too.

I'm thankful though he's found some pretty lucrative work doing what he enjoys doing, flying around the world, setting up huge networks for competitions. Not surprisingly, a massive industry...
