Oldos Reunion Thread

I, of course, am talking about the infamous hub of online activity that was EssentialSets on an unnamed chat client. For many of it's members, Oldos was simply a place to swap digital material and other 1s and 0s, but for others, the community of it's member rivaled (and in many aspects was better than) that which we have here at TA.

I don't really care to hear about how it was the best place to find new music (though it certainly was a gold mine of Essential Mixes), but I am eager to here how some of it's most prominant members have been doing. Do you miss the old place? What do you do now for meaningless conversation of electronic music and other topical material?

I miss it.
The homeofmusic hub is pretty good alternative though.

oh man i remember oldo's hub. it was the greetest! that was where i 1st met you (if you remember), aplz as well. i had some fun times in that hub

what i REALLY miss is Audiogalaxy. That shit had everything!

Yes it was a good time, and I made alot of (online) friends there that I still keep in close contact with today. I loved chatting in there at all hours of the day. Things were never so crazy that it was unbearable and not so strict that it wasn't fun. A true gem for all of us who remember it.

(and again, not just for the music sharing aspect, which need not be discussed)

im rather curious as to how the man himself is doin? is he a member here?

I was also addicted; more so than to any repetitive behavior in my life.

I would miss class to chat there, exams, projects, anything if something good was going on in oldos. I remember meeting Pimk and Zen there, as well as many many others that I can't possibly begin to name. Such a good time had by all....

Lots of people have tried (as im sure you know ) but none have been even remotely successful or as quality as Oldos...i think most people can agree...

Don't miss it at all. I didn't think it was any better than the hubs which have taken it's place since.

Yeh, Oldos hub rocked...i've even still got it in my favourites hoping someday it might come back lol . The Ops were pretty cool as well. I think that the reason i registered on this forum was because of references from the hub. BTW Oldo is a member here, but rarely posts.

Yeah that place was much more than just a chatroom type thing. The whole community got ruined by... those... people. Hopefully it'll be back, because there were definately some class characters in there. Most people from Oldo's are still floating about, but everyone's separated and kinda lost touch, which is a real shame.

Exactly what I was getting at. I was hoping streaky would post, as yet another of the great members and contributors to the microcosm that was oldos.

Sure, just any many hubs have popped up where you can find infinite files, 0day releases, and anything digital you want but few if any of them can match the tightly knit yet large-scale community that existed at Essential sets. I cant say it enough.

I used to be on there. Rather unfortunate that it went out of commission. Some cool peeps there too, along with the various music. Didn't oldo & oscar share a kind of vindictive hatred for each other? Shame...

Yup, as the story goes, Oscar and his other friends from FXP DDosed Oldos hub to death. Then, when a new hub opened roughly a week later, they repeated the feat, ending anyone desire to try to keep the hub open.

Nice to hear from Bod, but what happened to Keith? And Oldo? spyder? Tsushima Masaki? I could list names all day
