oooh! me first!!!

7:09am & it looks like I gotta cancel my dentist appt at 10am, if I even want to try to get thru the rest of my day of work. Ears are ringing, and I wasnt even done getting over the jetlag from Israel when I screwed up my sleep schedule so horribly again this birthday weekend. So I'll keep it short.

Caught the tail end of Walters set when I got it. Dennis Hahn threw a killer set! Mad props! Johan.......... Oh. My. God!!!!! It's been almost a yr since I saw him last, and boy was it worth the wait! One of the best sets from him that I've experienced live.

He played "SALTWATER"- Chicane (Johan Gielen mix)

That alone made the hell I'm gonna feel for the next few days worth it all.
A fine mix of new tunes & classics that had the packed main room jumping all night.

Glad to see that Republik filled the main room for this event on a Sun. night.

Everyone who didn't attend missed the f*ck out.

More later. Only 3 hrs of sleep b4 the day from hell begins.

Gielen kicked my ass this morning. More to come when I get home (hopefully in one piece!) Work is gonna be interesting today...Nada shoulda been there girl!

Sounds like a good nite ....How long was his set?

i had nothing left to give this wknd after a very emotional sat night / sunday morning. I danced my heart out this wknd to Mr. Lawler and Sasha and had no $$ and no energy left to damn all sunday night.

Glad to hear Republik held a successful night on a sunday. (DONT make it a trend!!--the sunday night parties not the successful nights)

First time at Republik and that place is really impressive. Not a big fan of light shows, lasers and flat screens....but this place has an impressive setup. Staff was really nice, AND YOU COULD SMOKE YOUR BRAINS OUT ON THE FLOOR!!!! Anyways the music got progressivly harder and harder, louder and more banging.

Johan put up a good show, other than the weak opening track, he never relented, he just kept on pounding some really beautiful trance. That was some of the clearest, hardest basslines I have heard in a while.

Did anyone else notice the amount of times that it said "IN SESSION WITH JOHAN GIELEN??" does that mean we may be able to get our hands on that set? - that would be nice.

that my friends is exactly what i needed. i'm sorry to be the barer of bad new, but if you like trance music and weren't there last nite, you must spend the next month kicking yourself for it!

just like the above post, it was a completely eargasmic experience! we got there around 11:15 and the place was DEAD, there must of been like 50 ppl in the whole club, at 12am it was still pretty dead and i was like wtf? where the crowd, don't be a repeat of last year. slowly but surely the club started filling out to dennis hahn's set. (which was very good btw.) and by the time johan came on at 2am the club was PACKED! and it was an awesome crowd totally in to the music.

i can't believe how many amazing songs were dropped last nite. some i can remember are

angelli & nelson - shivers (i absolutely love this song, johan was singing along and everying, one of new favorites, and made my nite!!!)

and seriously so many more, almost anything i could of asked for was played last nite. and you could tell johan loved those wall lights lol. he was getting jay to que them up and the whole bit and the perfect time, (qudos on the lights )

my gf had to work this morning, so we left around 4:30, but at least what i was there for completely raped me. (when did he finish btw?)

i actually liked the opening track and wanted to see if anyone knew waht it was? i definately thought it wouldn't be everyones cup of tea, but i was really digging it. kinda sounded like housey trance in a way. whatever johan did i enjoyed though...from the trance to the moments of techno here and there (i'm normally not into dancing to techno to much at the club, but johan did it very nice (he didn't play much, only a few here and there, but when he did, they had insane energy to them)

btw. one thing i forgot. Republik, your sound system is fuckin awesome!!!! i was so impressed, the clarity i could here was amazing, definately don't get that type clarity at the guvernment or docks (i don't know if that has to do with accoustics and being a smaller club, but i loved it)

My first time @ REPUBLIK

"THAT WAS TOTALLY WIKID"


I got there TOO early (like at 10pm) and the doors weren't officialy opened.I met Walter R. for the 1st time & chatted with him & Peter (the Greek) Ivals until I was allowed inside...My first impresions we're that I was TOTALLY blown away by the amount of lighting in the main room .Peter took me into the other room which was just as nice.The VIP room was beautiful & I like the fact that you can look out into the street...VERY nice...Anyway I took some pix while the club was empty and waited like an hour before I saw the 1st person & knew...Natalie...It was so good to see ya Tatgirl and I also met RTT (aka Rob) and his pal (sorry Rob but I forgot his name ).Anyway you guys made me laugh because you guys we're SOO pumped for this party.I finally got to meet Temporal Rhythm (AKA Ari) so happy to meet you dude and thanks for putting up with my BS here with the dress code ..One of my BIGGEST surprises was seeing Del (aka Swamper) strutin' his shit on stage...MAN you sure came with your dancing feet on ..I was really glad to have met Dennis Hahn and DUDE you dropped some kickass beats
Later on I ran into some people I haven't seen in a long time like Matt, John & Danielle as well as Petra...I then later got to see & meet THE MAN....Johan Gielen and got a couple of pix taken with him but they we're too out of focus...oh well I already have a pic of me & him anyway ...This guy is THE coolest DJ and was very cool with people hounding him for pix & autographs...ULTIMATE CLASS...and when he started spinning he had me dancing ALL nite and I nearly destroid my feet...Like Nat said above in her review...I went NUTS when he dropped "Saltwater"....OH MY GOD that was a wikid remix of that track & I WANT IT ...There we're tons more old school & new stuff that he played ...

The whole nite was amazing and I wanted to thank REPUBLIK for an amazing nite & amazing staff...I told Walter that I have to come on a Sat nite or something WITH proper attire ...

I left around 5am because I was so tired.Luckily I didn't work in the morning but I will gladly to it ALL over again when Johan returns to REPUBLIK

I have to say I didnt share the same experience as everyone else. Maybe I should start doing e again!

For starters the vibe was terrible, reminded me a lot of a night at the Guv. E-tards everywhere, orgying in the legandary cuddle puddles.

I thought the club was AMAZING. The design was top notch. Who ever was controling the lighting was on their game, and definitly assisted the music. Its nice to have a trane night at a quality club. As for the speakers, I have no clue how a club can spend so much money on astetics and then chinse out on the worlds most garbage EAW system. The bass was the worst quality with no punch at all. For a club of that caliber it would be nice to see some Apogee's or better yet if they jumped on the EV (Alpha Dynacord) band wagon. All in all though, Id have to say its one of the better clubs in town.

As for the music, what a let down. I went in full well knowing that Johan mixes at best are comparable to oil and water, but usually has some bomb track selection... this was not the case last night. What a big let down, what happened to the melodic epic tracks? I will give him credit for being a great performer though, his energy made me dance to tracks that I usually wouldnt. He brought great energy to the crowd!

Off to work for me now!!!

what show were you at??? the whole nite was chalked full of melodic epic tracks. you only need to look at the tracklist for proof of that. i'm surprised you didn't like the system, i personally thought it sounded excellent. one of the worst systems has to be kool haus, whenever i'm there, i can never get completely into cause the system sounds a bit off...but we all have our preferences i guess

Wow...it's incredible how big an influence the music can have on your mood. Seeing Digweed at System made me want to slit my wrists (I know everybody loves him, but I just found his stuff incredibly booooring) but Johan just put me in such a happy place. I was just blissed out for the entire night.

I thought the sound system was f*ing great. There's alot to be said for a small room like that. I could talk to friends (hi Nat!!) without shouting and my ears were fine when I left.

I think the five strippers/dancers on the stage for the first part of the night was about the cheesiest thing I've ever seen...mercifully, they were gone by the time Johan came on.

Great night. As everyone else has said, if you weren't there and you're a trance fan, you really really need to get your priorities straight.

Hey! I can actually (sorta) id a track that nobody's mentioned yet (this is a first!). It was Song for the Siren. Unfortunately (yes, I realize this is the important part) I don't have a clue which version it was.

well well well... I have been to see every top dj more than once.. just got back from ferry and above and beyond at godskitchen in birmingham uk and pvd at the turnmills in london... and johan's set put them both to shame. This was by far the best set i've ever witnessed..The first 2 hours were just none stop, it was unreal..then i guess his in sessions show ended and he calmed it down a bit for the last 2 hrs but they were still fantastic. Flawless mixing and such a perfect overall flow.. liked when he was fucking around a little in the later hours too, always fun to do that. Lights were great.. sound system was amazing.. lofl I donno what kinda ears kla must be listening through??but he obviously knows nothing about sound systems.. Granted it wasn't as loud as Guv or Docks but it doens't need to be..it was at the perfect volume that didn't fuck my ears over, a full rich sounding system that was eq'd properly..unlike the piercing highs in the shitty Kool Haus.
lofl and Johan can't mix? common..the guy was near flawless, I think he actually fucked up once and then just cut it over to the cued song mid mix..and it wasn't even that bad, was a good cover up.

Was like 75% asian in there.. but suprisingly it was a great crowd.. very few cracked out ones standin in kholes unlike the guv, good to see. Dennis Hahn was absoultely amazing too.. perfect warm up set.. took it from an empty floor to a full one, with everyone just startin to dance..exactly how it should be done, and then Johan took the decks and the rest is history.

I'll be there every sunday its open from now on, I think Hahn is a resident there too.. just goin to see him is more than worth it.

WOW, just WOW!! This was by far the best set Johan has dropped in Toronto yet, unreal! He played a 4 hour set of pure bliss, finishing at 6am.. CRAZY! My only complaint was that it was a bit hot in there at times but with over 1100 dancing people in the nightclub I'm sure that would overwell any air conditioning system!

it was broadcast last nite... but it will be played on fresh fm this saturday .. between 9 and 11..
u can record it .. or just go on a p2p program it will be available for dl there. once again amazing nite...
