@home cable internet.

I have ATT@home and with the recent bankruptcy of excite@home my internet service was down for two days, but now that its "back online" nothing works. It is INCREDIBLY SLOW when it wants to be, and AOL and AIM rarely work. anybody know anything if its just a phaze or what?

thanks

@home is out of buisness.

that means shaw@home, rogers@home, etc, are all toast..

go check out www.di.fm for details, and a kick ass trance radio station.

Downloads .com..I dont know my speed, Its quick so quick that I never have to look @ the speeds im going at.

i'm now getting about 150 down, but from here i would only get about 100 because its across the country.

Posted by inatrance on Dec-04-2001 06:18:

ehh i think its partially wokring again.. i've seen speeds upto 800k.. off fileplanet.com downloading a game for my brother.. ehh it was rare occasion :-) usually about 300 is normal, peace.. some stuff is still screwed but its gettin better

mr_sax: WRONG.

@home is officially bankrupt. they pulled the plug on friday. bye bye. if you are still using shaw, it must be using a different network, which at+t is doing also. in fact i was specifically told by someone on direct connect in canada that shaw changed their network recently anyways.

Posted by .montecarlo. on Dec-04-2001 06:29:

i'm on @home cable, haven't noticed or heard anything

heheh, thanks for the tip!

Posted by mr_sax on Dec-04-2001 06:30:

you're in washington.

yes @home is dead but Shaw is not. shaw cannot die.

shaw is THE cable company of BC, Alberta, Ontario.. i think all of canada. it cannot go bankrupt, thus i am in no danger of losing my |337 connection

hmm? where'd you here that from? rogers and shaw aren't toast. nowhere near it. my cable works totally fine. it's excite (aka @HOME) and only excite that is possibly going bankrupt. it has nothing to do with rogers or shaw.

lynx..check the papers, yesterday there was an article in the Calgary herald that 100 of thousands of US customers were gonna be sans net, and only thousands of canadian customers.

Somebody big is bankrupt

tru say, somebody big is bankrupt. but i know for a fact it ain't rogers or shaw. it's excite@home. thank goodness.

i'm using shaw as my isp and recently my download speeds went as high as 2.5MB/sec (4 files at 600+ k/sec) combined.

Ok, just to clear up some things:

The only @home network that is going down is EXCITE@HOME...
Rogers@Home and Shaw@Home have recently split from Excite@Home, and they are not using Excite@Home network anymore (I guess they realized that if they didn't split, Excite@Home would pull them down too).

Here is the article from isonews.com, about the current outages for some @home users (Rogers & Shaw are in no way affected):

"Excite@Home cut off service to 16% of its customers on sunday due to the company's bankruptcy. AT&T has restored service to more than a third of its customers -- about 226,000 subscribers -- by moving them to its own network. ATT said it could take as long as 10 days to restore service to the other 640,000 subscribers across the United States. This move comes after Excite@Home executives said current contracts with cable companies were costing the company up to $6 million per week!"

And regarding the download speeds some of you are wondering about, you can actually download with speeds up to 1MB/sec or so, but only if the server that you are downloading from can send that file at 1MB/sec. I am saying this because I have been downloading with speeds around 800-900Kb/s, but only from certain servers (some OC48 servers).
So, if you find a server that is hooked up on one of these OC networks, and can send you a file at 1 GB/sec, then you should be able to receive it at 1 GB/sec, even tho your processor would fry in that case... (I guess)
