Hello! Movement (Melodic Prog)

Hello!

Just finished my new track. Please tell me what you think?

hrm.. nice ideas, and nice melody, but the build was a bit weak.

also, i didn't like how there was no percussion for the whole first minute or so. i think u should try just adding more percussion and sound effects.

but overall i think ur melodies are nice and the middle of the track sounds good. just a bit lacking in sound effects and percussion for a progressive track imo.

keep it up

(check out my track in the forum also) =)

Ok. I wanted to bring in elements slowly, but perhaps I did it too slow... Thanks for the comment, and I'll check your track.

Wow! That's a big compliment. Although I find Ozgur's tracks much more deeper than anything I have produced so far.

But anyways, I'm glad that you liked it.

Hey.

-Dirty bass sounds good but everything at the beginning sounds pretty muffled. The flutter counters it a bit atleast
-The electric piano is great and then the wooden plunk sound is a great addition.
-Finally, some higher frequencies to the kick .
-Your clap/snare is a little distracting from the rythmic feel to the track. Turn the levels on it down a little and also take the 3000Hz range down on it a little as well.
-Good progression with the added lower wooden plunk sound.
-Breakdown--
-Oooo. I'm loving the trance pluck along with the pads and bass in the breakdown. Great atmosphere!
-There could have been a bit more of a build up with a lowpass filter in the breakdown so that the breakout could have been more explosive.
-The outro is an ok compliment to the intro.

Overall, this track is pretty good. The main thing I would recomend fixing is the clap that accurs twice per measure. The 3000Hz range on it (which is associated with harshness) is a bit too high. It makes the clap sound as if its much louder than everythign else and distracts the listener from the great melodic elements in this piece. You said this is progressive so I wont harp on there needing to be a big riff melody in there but its good as a progressive song as well. Personally, I think this could be an explosive track if you did make it a big riff prog-trance song though .
Grade A (great atmosphere but fix the clap!)

Cheers,
Zac

very nice, lots of potential. i am impressed

DarkISwordI: Huge thanks to you! That was a very comprehensive analysis.

I wanted to filter the intro. Maybe that wasn't such a good idea... "Electric piano" is actually a gated pad. By clap/snare, do you mean the one that has delay on it, or the one that comes at the same time with kick(ie. at 1:17)? The "trance pluck" gave me some really hard time, cause I couldn't get it to really drive the track. At the same time, I didn't want to make a typical trance lead...

Dickie-T: I'm glad that you liked.

I enjoyed this track a lot, especially the plucked melody. I pulled it in to my studio and mastered it as best I could from an mp3. I made it sound a bit bigger and played with the stereo field. What do you think?

Well that was unexpected.

I also noticed after uploading, that it lacked a bit of the very high frequencies. I see you fixed that in your master. Although it sounds quite harsh because of the mp3 packing. The track is tighter in your master, that I like a lot.

I could send you the unmastered wav, packed with lossless codec on gmail. If you'd like to have good source material?

I would be happy to work with you to get the sound you want. I charge a hundred bucks to do a real mastering job (paypal is great). I take more time and then I can tweak the master according to your ears after I do it.

P.S. Did you check out my track called Birds Of Paradise? It's a good example of my mastering.

i would say the clap/snare is slightly off in terms of speed of attack but i would say that this is a good thing and definately sounds like you meant it to be like that.

frederic de backer did a track under the alias 'petibonium' called little prince on captivating records. the clap he uses is also slightly delayed in its attack and works really well.

i recon that clap is one of my favourite points about the track cos it sounds original and unusual.

id keep that clap cos it sounds wicked when loud.

i like the remasered version too james. its got that treble that was missing from the original.

i find myself always mixing down and e q ing without enough treble.
its an overlooked frequency that adds a sparkle to tracks when you up it a bit.

would it be possible for you to send me a wav or a cd for me to rmx from?

great stuff

Ok. I didn't understand you're a professional on this. I might invest that money when I have a real potential track at my hands. I don't find Movement that good.

I checked, now that you mentioned it. Sounds very pro! And I have to say I like the track musically too. Very chill, perfect music for a sunny summer day.

Of course it's meant. I like it too, but apparently it divides opinions... And thanks for the comment! I'll send you a PM on the other matter.

Heya, just listened to your track.

Not a huge fan of prog so I cant tell if these are good prog ideas or not, but it sounds pretty tight and well produced. While there are some nice short melodies in it, I was still wanting more in terms of melody direction/drive. I think with tracks like these, you need to really capture a sense of serious melodic progression of forsake that in favour of heave use of fx and atmospherics. This track seemed to do both in little bits bit never really won me over with either.

Still, its a great track, prog just has to do some really amazing stuff to impress me =)
