Sad Day, the guy who invented electronic "chips" died

quote:
Jack St. Clair Kilby, a retired engineer with Texas Instruments who invented the integrated circuit (IC) passed away Monday in Dallas following a brief battle with cancer. He was 81.

quote:
In my opinion, there are only a handful of people whose works have truly transformed the world and the way we live in it -- Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, the Wright Brothers and Jack Kilby, said TI chairman Tom Engibous in a statement. If there was ever a seminal invention that transformed not only our industry but our world, it was Jacks invention of the first integrated circuit.

We all benefited from his invention (they are in everything). May we all aspire to do somthing as great as he did. Rest in peace.

Being in the electronics/PC field, I'm very sad to hear that...

True. ICs are pretty cool. They have it down to an art where they start with a large, bulky piece of equipment cased in plastic, and by the 5th generation they have created something 10x more efficient that fits into a convenient IC chip.

ICs are what I do I'm redesigning a processor to detect errors witin it'self and fix em so you can overclock/run at lower power for my >project<.

Seriously though, this guy was important.
