Produced, non-live mix - what should I use?
I just want to make a non-live CD mix, but I'm not sure what to use. I know there is Traktor DJ Studio but that's more for using live. Is there something else out there? I like how with Sound Forge I get a .wav representation of the song, but I need tempo control. If I had tempo control I could probably do it in Sound Forge but I'm curious if there are alternatives.
Thanks
i think Acid Pro 4.0 could do something like what your asking but im not really sure...
maybe at least it will point you in the right direction...
Traktor should be fine. Acid 5.0b (as it is now
) or Ableton Live are a bit more advanced really but can do the same thing
Can I do it like .wav/.mp3 editing? Where I can align the tempo matched files and then edit parts of them? That would seem like the easiest, before I start hunting down software reccomendations.
Acid Pro can do that. Chopping its called in there. I believe most of them will but if you are serious about it I would get a proper wav editor like sound forge or cool edit pro (or whatever it is called now). Many of these programs (the dj software i mean) ask to link to external wav editors.
I have Sound Forge but I'm not sure how I can mix like that. I need a way to get the songs tempo matched.
Here's basically what I'm looking for. Something like Sound Forge where it gives me a .wav layout

but layered, so I can just play one, then have one play later on in the first track, and I can just line the tracks up.
yup... like i said traktor, acid pro or ableton live
get the demo (ie free) version of pro tools.
Its what sasha, john 00 and all the other djs who didnt want to mix their compilation albums live used- and what others used to edit down track length after the mix in the days before ableton.
