Sample Choice Anxiety: come on, admit it!
The name says it all (thanks Dave West!): Sample Choice Anxiety (or VST / Preset Choice Anxiety for that matter).
How many of you suffer from this nerve wrecking affliction occasionaly?
Come on: speak out - you're surely not alone!
haha, yea it's preety shit, when you cant do what you want just give up,and give yourself a time..
I use samples for; Kick, bass (if it's an off-beat bass), percussion, cymbals etc.
Of course I add a lot of FX on most of them..
lazy bastards, i'd rather create absolute crap (and so i do) than create a good track with samples all over the place, then i would have the feeling it isnt completely self made and then i would hang myself, which is a good remedy i must add, try it
instant hit maker Vst,just compress it,and send to labels

you got me!!! damn!!!!!!!! time to hang myself i guess
Dickie, I think you missed the point, mate.
Samples are just building blocks, elements with wich you can create a specific sound. If you think the use of samples is opposite of creativity and originality, you still have along way to go....(IMO)
Well your point wasn't very clear...
I just try different samples. What gives me the sound I'm after, I stick to it.

Completely synthetic beats sound terrible.
when all producers do it, why shouldnt we?
I mean, should we make our own VST cause we want to be 100% original?
I use vengance sound samples for kicks ect. I try not to use presets for synths but present number 8 on superwave trance pro owns me!!!
agreed: there shoud be a balance: as little as possible (if not none -point taken Dickie)"preset and prefab" samples and a practicalbut limited use of more generic elementary samples. For instance 909 rides: I'm pretty sure everyone uses samples for this.
To clarify my point: sometimes it gets tough to make your pick out of all the generic samples, even the once you created yourself. Hence: SCA!
In my former years of music production I usually steered clear of using samples (except for kicks and percussion). But now ive realized that using samples for atmosphere and sound effects can be almost the same as using a synth for me. In the sense that I am altering an original sample to fit my song. For example, in reason i use Scream 4 for a rhode sample...makes it amazingly different. I think using samples can only broaden the production capabilities if used properly.
Another example is for beats...I do tremendous overlapping of sounds, eqing, Scream 4, and anything else to make it different. I think changing samples from their original state is in a sense, making it ur original sample. One thing i think people should stay away from is using samples exactly how they got em, with maybe some reverb.
