The Best CPU
Better CPU?
can't rly answer dis 1...
CPUs are varying all da time, u can't just look at mhz quoted...
I think Intel had the best processor with the P4 2Ghz, but AMD has stolen top spot again.
I have the amd xp 1700, 1.4gig, it is bloody brilliant
IMHO the best cpu is Amd k7, because i can rip cds faster than a pentium 4

if you really want to know the best CPU on the market imo at the moment, it is G4 PowerPC for mac. it's absolutely brilliant. the architecture, speed, reliability, and technical specs make it faster and less worked than a pentium4 or a k7. i could go into more details if you want. but all i have to say for now is an 867 mhz G4 chip paired up with a 1.8 p4 chip with the same amt of RAM and everything, won against the 1.8 p4 chip. there's a lotta reasons why that the avg consumer might not know, and probably won't know.
P4 is the lamerest cpu on the whole universe. i can play cs with 16bots in my 333mhz amd and i cant run it on a 600p3.
INTEL SUCKS

indeed, the p4 is an extremely lame chip. but when you gets results of an 83% faster benchmark on a dual 800 mhz chip (which is still less than 1.8) of the mhz amt. it's rather impressive.
but intel is attempting to correct their mistake with their new chip called the itanium. and so far, it's looking to be quite sleek. still won't be as fast as the G4 chip from what i'm seeing, but it'll run 100% faster than their p4 chip. no exaggeration there by the way. because it has half the pipelines of their p4 predeccessor. anyway, enough rambling. hehe.
amd's still good, but there are a lot of better chips out there. like p4's itanium that's coming out soon and the sparc chip mentioned above. which are both better than any of amd's chips out there and to come really.
i'm gonna have to go with anything AMD!!!!!!! go ahead and buy AMD stock, it will rise in value, their P/E ratio is VERY LOW currently....
>JM<
*please note that i am not responsible to you for any downturn in AMD's stock if their stock value falls below for what You bought it at*

A dual set of Intel Xeon 2.0 Ghz would put any1 at lite speed I think.

AMD r0xx3rs
Xeon
The Dual set is really impressive.......but people have gone too far in this thread. WE're talkin abt home PC's here.
PIII is still my favourite but AMD is not far behind.
Voted P4, its been the best for me, remember different people need pc's for different things for me Intel r ok for others AMD are better.
In my experience AMD have never been that stable and kept crashing for no reason
Jon
Intel forever!!!

Personally I hate intel products...but I can say that I liek the feel of the intel dual xeon 2.0Ghz...
i cant se how an AMD processor can crash as someone mentioned above. anyway... what the hells the point in having a p4 with the new SSE2 instructions when as far as i know, NO software takes advantage of this hardware. some more points to consider are that p4's process 2 instructions at a time and AMD's process 3, so the MHz comparison isnt a good guide. g4 processing from the mac is by far the most powerfull and proven! because it processes 64 bit instructions instead of the more common 32 bit ones, a lower MHz ratign is aaquired. This is good because no overheating needs to be catered for.
At the moment AMD have the market, but intel has the technology of the future, which isnt needed now. Mac's are just to incompatible. Intel Itanium processors are looking the biz especially with multi threading, but they only go up to 800MHz in UK as far as im aware of. an advantage tho is that quad processing is already capable witht he itanium. i.e. 4 x 800MHz. The decision is down to the individual, but whats the point of overpaying for a p4 at rip off prices and it cant even beat a cheaper processor (AMD XP) on sheer power. A true fact i read was.. an AMD ATHLON XP 1800+ (1.53GHz) can out perform a Intel p4 1.8GHz by up to 22% on business applications. have i said enough??? P4's are a waste of money for home computer users. might as well get a cyrix.
pentium
AMD AMD
is the best thing ever.. heheehehe

Intel Pentium 4 is cool
athlon?
Gotta b AMD Athlon for home use IMO, and mine @ 1200mhz benchmarks similar to a p4 1.6, which is a helluva lot more expensive, no competition
AMD BABY!
BTW EUGENE
Your last two choices are virtually the same
Amd because you can clock it so much harder
Xp1800@ 2,4mhz no probs

best CPU for WHAT??
it all depends on the application my friend..
but from the engineering standpoint, i think alpha's just OWN the rest of the pack.. they got the good guys working on tha shizznit!
they only need the right management.. sad they went DTD
