Oakenfold live in 2005
So, how have his live sets been lately? I am gonna be seeing him this July 3rd at Crobar (NYC). Wondering what to expect from him. Thanks.
If you've got nothing to do, and its under 20 bucks, I say go see him. You'll probably have a decent time if youre not intensly worried about mixing or tracklisting and are intent on having fun.
Of course my intentions are to have fun.
$40 a ticket though.
Is this show part of the Spectrum of Sound tour? There will probably be some other legitimitate names there that are worth seeing if that's the case.
I dont think it is. I am sure there will be an opening dj but I didn't see any other names on the dj list. It isnt really a special event or anything. Set is from 10pm to 6am.
i heard that his queensday set is suppossed to be good? i think it was somewhat recent...
not too keen on the $40/ticket though... chances are he'll spin from 2-5 am TOPS anyway.
Liquid Todd is the opening dj.
Hernan Cataneo is also on the tour and has been stealing the spotlight from Oakie.
He is now UTTER GUMPF
Still plays PPK - ResuRection i need say no more

| Paul Oakenfold ... doesn't fucking try anymore. Nou, you didn't miss much. His transitions were shit, the tracks weren't well beatmatched nor queued correctly and he tended to do quick fades. He also forgot what an EQ is for a few transitions. Half the time he just stood there watching the crowd dance. He did his weird "touch my penis!" pose a few times, which in all honesty looks really, really ghey. If he wasn't sitting on the table, he was hidden behind some monitors or occasionally clapping and doing an "I'm Jesus!" pose. He left the booth three times. Once, he came up to the edge of the stage and reached for peoples hands but pulled it away emotionally. The second, he walked up to a lady in a wheel chair right in front and talked to her [which actually gave him a ton of respect points]. The third time really pissed me off... He powered down a record, and as soon as it was down, he fades in none other than PPfuckingK - Resurrection. He lets it play, and goes off to the side of the stage, sits on his ass, and chats with some guy. He lets the entire track play out to the end of the vinyl. No mixing, no nothing. For the most part, he didn't spend too much time with his headphones on. I wouldn't see him again if you paid me too (unless, by some freak force of nature, he improves). |
Ya know, it seems to me that when reading reviews it also depends on where the dj is playing. I dunno, I could be wrong. But maybe they feel that if they are playing somewhere like NYC, Miami, or any other major cities they have to step it up a notch because the crowd will be more demanding.
Well that was Seattle, and that ain't exactly Po-dunk, USA. But yeah maybe if you go to a WMC or something he'll wake up a bit. But c'mon! Who wants to see a DJ that only tries for certain shows! I also saw Oakey the same night as Idoru and I had the same exact reaction. He sucked big time, he even played Yilmaz Altanhan - Eighties twice! Yeah Oakey's Orange hours set is really good but DON'T expect his live sets to be like that. Unless you get lucky, they won't be. And who wants to pay 40 bucks on a 50/50 chance of a good set? Anyway, his horrible DJing these days warrants for me to complain every chance I get and tell everyone I know not to see him. But, you do what you want.
But yeah Liquid Todd and Sandra were amazing and if they are on the ticket it may make up for it. But still...
What does Liquid Todd spin?

i wish oakenfold would revert to his old self.
I would not pay 40 dollars to see Oakenfold at this point in his career. I recommend spending your 40 dollars elsewhere. Be sure to update this, telling us what you did.

I saw him Live in Cancun on spring break there...ive gotta say, he blew the roof off.
No matter what he plays (even his occasional Justin Timberlake remix) it just sounds great.
As for what to expect....ANYTHING! I really have no idea, but perhaps some funky pop lol.
he's playing here with a few others july 8 i believe...
i'll tell you how it was, although i'll probably pay more attention to hernan's and deep dish's sets.
I saw him last Thanksgiving at Crobar, and it was good. But i have to say that Liquid Todd gets annoying after a while.Paul's set was hard and good I should say,BUT HE ONLY PLAYED FOR 2 HOURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Mind you a paid $50 for my ticket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Never doing it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ps:unless there is a really cheap guestlist.
