Deep Dish - 'Flashing for Money' [Sultan Club Mix] (Positiva)

Dire Straits is, has, and always will be one of my favorite bands. In fact, "I Want My MTV" is perhaps my favorite song of all time.

Thus, upon hearing this track dropped at the conclusion of the Deep Dish Essential Mix this past weekend... I just flat-out lost my mind. I have never literally gotten up from my computer chair and danced to a song in a set, before... but for this one, that's exactly what I did. No bullshit. I got up and fucking danced. Like a wildman.

Absolutely. Fucking. Stellar. Out of this world. Amazing. Blew my mind right out of the back of my skull.

I give this track an 11/10. I never even imagined that anyone would remix Dire Straits. Ever. It just wasn't conceivable before Deep Dish went and broke all of the rules and turned an already awesome song into something... godly.

I fully intend to shake hands with Ali and Sharam when I go to see them in Seattle at Club Element in July while they're here for the "George Is On" world tour and commend them for remixing this tune. I could give a rip what anyone else thinks about it. It's a goddamn stormer, and I will buy several copies when it releases.

Sultan remixes Dire Straits and Flash Dance

2005-07-31 - In late December Sultan began doing a fun remix of Dire Straits "Money For Nothing". The main intention of the mix was to have it ready to be played at the Miami Music Conference at his gig at Space playing after Tiesto.

Once he had finished the remix, he realized that "Money for Nothing" was actually in the same key as Deep Dish's Flashdance, and the result was a remix of dire straits mashed with flashdance.

A week later, Sultan sent the remix/mashup over to Sharam from Deep Dish who fell in love with it and played it at every show. Sharam then contacted Sultan and told him how the track had such a great impact on the dancefloor and that he thought it might be a good idea if Sultan were to try to work the Flashdance vocals into the mix.

And so after a month of working the mix and communicating with Sharam to make it perfect, Sultan came up with "Flashing for Money". No further information on the remix/mashup can be given except that you will all be seeing it, hearing it and hopefully getting your hands on it officially very soon.

So i guess sultan deserves some credit also

If it's your favorite song of all-time then you should probably know it's called "Money for Nothing." Is your second favorite song "Teenage Wasteland" by the Who?

Actually, it's called "I Want My MTV". The name was changed to "Money for Nothing" on a second release of the album and has stuck ever since. "I Want My MTV" is the original name of the song. I still have the original cassette recording of "On the Night". Rename your MP3.

(The original vocals also feature Sting of the Police...)

"On the Night" as in the live album recorded in 1992? And the song in question is "Money for Nothing" from the album "Brothers in Arms" released in 1985, with the song title "Money for Nothing," not "I Want My MTV."

The song was originally recorded as a promotional piece for MTV. It appeared on Brothers in Arms as "Money for Nothing" because Dire Straits did not have copyright clearance to use MTV in a song title. (Ridiculous, considering that the song was originally recorded FOR an MTV promotional piece.) After the debut of their album, Dire Straits was granted the right to use MTV in the song title. Unfortunately, this was long after the album had gone into mass production. (If memory serves, there's an article about it in Rolling Stone from like 1989.) In 1992, Dire Straits recorded "On the Night". On the initial release of the live album, the song was titled "I Want My MTV". When the album went into a second printing, however, it was changed back to "Money for Nothing". I've never been able to find anything on any reason why.

I've always known the track as "I Want My MTV" because I got my copy of "On the Night" before finally getting around to buying "Brothers in Arms". (I was just a kid at the time... so money for music was hard to come by.) My copy of the tape is obviously from the first printing. I found it earlier today, and it lists "I Want My MTV" as track number nine. I'm just anal about the title of the song.

1200 Mics released a psytrance remake of "Money for Nothing" in 2003 entitled "Acid for Nothing". It appeared on their Heroes of the Imagination album. Probably the only 1200 Mics song I can tolerate.

Perhaps you are getting confused with MTV's "I Want My MTV" promotional campaign, those old commercials with artists like Sting and Billy Idol saying "I want my MTV!" That was the inspiration behind the Dire Straits song, and that's why they got Sting to sing the intro to the song. The song was released on Brothers in Arms in 1985 as "Money for Nothing" and the video that aired on MTV (which I believe won the best video award at the VMAs in 1986) had the title "Money for Nothing." I have Brothers in Arms and the greatest hits ad they both have the song titled "Money for Nothing." Since you said your first printing of On the Night says "I Want My MTV" but it was changed to "Money for Nothing" in subsequent printings, don't you think it was because it was an error? I have never seen anything written about the song being called "I Want My MTV" (except mislabelled mp3s) and I couldn't find anything in a search. So until you show me proof otherwise, the song is still "Money for Nothing" to me.
