Damian Lazarus Interview & DJ Set
on BEATS IN SPACE - WNYU 89.1FM

DAMIAN LAZARUS

Damians SUCK MY DECK selection is a top-notch mix by this all round hedonist, dance floor DJ extraordinaire and keeper of the funk. There are some album exclusives (Freaks Tweekers and Border Community wonder boy James Holdens track Lump). There are some forthcoming treats from Crosstown Rebels (Pier Bucci / Matt Tollfrey & Craig Sylvester). There are some huge dancefloor moments with Trentemoller, Issakidis, and the massive Superpitcher remix of M83. And there are some real surprises including Ricardo Villalobos criminally overlooked mix of Thomas Dolby and even the The Stranglers. While Damian brings his party aesthetic across the globe this summer, this soundtrack will be one of the summers essential electronic must-haves.

Damian Lazarus is quickly emerging as one of the most exciting DJs on the scene today with a sound thats all about forward thinking electronic music and the more twisted hours of the morning. His faultless musical selection has picked up props around the world and most recently, Damians afterhours DJing sessions at the Winter Music Conference were one of this years highlights. He constantly delivers a fresh and unique sound best described as dirty & deep, electro house - a rebel sound designed for lovers of late night madness, future dance floor classics and cutting edge new ideas. Elsewhere, his DJing antics have taken him to such respected spaces as Bugged Out! in London, Zouk in Singapore, Rex in Paris, Circo Loco at DC-10 in Ibiza, plus DJing tours to Australia, Mexico, the United States, and a host of other dirty & sweaty underground parties around the world.

Damian Lazarus is giving less commercial music a big kick in the ass, and debauched dancefloors the world over are eating it up. BPM Magazine

Damian Lazarus is keeping the off-kilter party-hard spirit of his sadly defunct City Rockers label aliveAll sorts of funky basslines and electro glitches collide in this unashamedly groove tech-house mashup, making [Rebel Futurism 2] one dirty, sweaty, eardrum-popping compilation that doesnt let up until minute 72. XLR8R

Damian Lazarus, dance floor DJ extraordinaire and keeper of the funk. - CITYBEAT

Lazarus works best under the auspices of bringing underground beats to the masses. For anyone with an inkling of curiosity for whats been going on in the worlds better dance clubs, Rebel Futurism is a one-stop primer on recent dance history. - EXCLAIM

British DJ and producer Damian Lazarus purveys dance-floor futurism through his imprint Crosstown Rebels. The sound is at once familiar -- think Rephlex-style Luke Vibert mixed with a bit of industrial techno -- and eerie: the records he spins are hard-hitting enough to rock any nightclub yet sleek and sensuous enough to entice listeners with discrete sensibilities. Many are bemoaning a dearth of innovative artists at this year's WMC, but if you can catch this rebel futurist DJ'ing, you're likely to get all the edginess you can handle. MIAMI NEW TIMES

i can't wait for this!!!!!!!!!!

especially since my future husband will be there...

edit: what's up with every single dj playing at cochlea-busting levels at canal room?? how come they Never realize how damn loud they are playing?? it's almost unbearable at times, even with earplugs.. what gives?! also, i find canal room to be not such a good venue despite it's quality sound system and good location (great for parking).. crowd is decent (i hate those wannabe models that step all over you like a vicious female grasshoppers...scuse me for only being 5'6"...) but it's lacking in some type of vibe and plus, there's hardly a vibe unless it's medium/well packed.. i dunno.. i dont have a better suggestion tho, except for cielo...

Unfortunately a little bit more red tape on this design as it was part of a tour promoting his mix cd so to they need to keep the promotion consistent. Thought about doing a robot special, but decided to save it for next time!!

Yes! you did but soren, it wasn't your kind of music, so no worries

nick opened up for a lil while, and he always plays good sets, never fails to play great tunes! i wanted to say something to him but i guess i got too shy

DAMIAN rules!!! i LOVED every track he dropped and he kept the crowd moving... he's very cute in that adrien brody kinda way.. but his fashion taste? not so good.. he was wearing this psuedo-tie-dye shirt with that hat you always see him in (like in the flyer up there) but, who gives a shit? he's crazy, animated, and a Fucking good dj. one of the best times i had at a regular robots party...i cannot wait for superpitcher @ cielo tho!!!! That's gonna be insane...

^^^ Hahaha. If spectaculars regarding fashion and cute boys were the main draws, then I guess I took the right decision staying at home working.

Funny thing about Nick's sets: I've been to quite a few Robots events by now, but I've always managed to miss his sets, only catching those of Bill Patrick and Dennis Rodgers...
