Most Over-Rated Game(s)

im sure it'll start a flame war, but i'll nominate the following anywayz (in no particular order).

halo
diablo
counterstrike

and their sequels.

haha- everyone always mentions halo...(i personally love it)

for me- the most overrated game was burnout 3; that game was fun for a while, but then damn- it just got annoying

I think Counterstrike itself is a rather awesome game. the people who play it are another matter.

yes, halo is VERY overated. I haven't played the sequel tho.
I think Doom 3 lived up to the hype more than Half Life 2 did.

no way?! HL2 > D3

half life 2 is by far the best game i have ever played. the engine is so smooth, story line is uncomparable, and the gameplay is fantastic.

i have no idea really..

but yeah, halo singleplayer is overrated.. but playing it with a friend either in coop or against eachother is really fun

and as confession said... counterstrike is a damn nice game, but most players bring's it down in the dirt.. that's why i don't play it anymore..

really? i thought multiplayer was really slooooooow & boring.

the problem with counterstrike was that it was neither a close-quarters attempted sim, nor an unrealistic shooter. it fell in the middle and did both badly imo.

NFSU, Brothers in Arms, Far Cry, etc

Totally agreed. I used to be somewhat good at Counter-Strike, but lousy people and loads of cheaters keep me from playing online. Now I mainly play with bots. Saves me the trouble of dealing with drama and people who have to take shortcuts to win.

I mainly stopped playing CS also because of cheaters/hackers. I even saw admins using hacks/cheats

I never really liked first-person shooters, but after playing Halo 2 with my friend, I at once had a change of heart.

Vaporware?

game has been in development since around quake 2 days. Vaporware meaning its never gonna come out.

Hmm, I'd have to say Halo 1 & 2, NFSU series..... are pretty overrated..although I liked those games there's no way they were as good as the hype.

mmmm, FPSs...

i enjoyed the outdoors environment, esp inside vehicles, in halo. i also thought the AI was impressive for its time. certainly better than some of the baddies in doom 3. and i did play it for a while. otherwise tho, i thought the game was awful. esp in multiplayer, where the sheer lack of speed meant what might have been cool and intense was just damn boring. and the x-box version was worse in this context due to the nature of console controls.

i thought far cry was visually impressive, and its AI is prob the best ive seen. tho to be fair i have only played the demo. the open-ended nature of how you approached the game and how you fought was excellent. best outdoors environment that ive played (but i havent played a new one for a while).

doom3 was a basic basic game with little variance on its prequels. however, it had me and a mate playing til the early morning scaring the shit out of ourselves. best single-player orientated FPS experience ive had, even if it was only the atmosphere that did it for me.

half-life 2 isnt as good as 1, but does some really impressive physics stuff (not so much the ideas but the application) and was fun for a while. the storyline just didn't excite me enough. i dont find the weapons to be particularly enjoyable to use, in a shooter thats important to me. and the whole steam thing was a fvcking joke.

swat 4 sucked big big hairy testicles. nothing about that game was fun. much inferior to 3.

/back on topic
always joked that diablo was about how fast one could click their mouse its repetition just got to me and there was no attachment to my character, which is important in an RPG imo.

Glad I only rented it when it came out.

the GTA series in my oppinion is very overrated.

CounterStrike is blown wwayyy outta proporsion and the latest wayy over hyped game Id say is Battlefeild 2. Soo many bugs. The server browser dosent even work and the game plays at like 10fps even on the fastest computers.

Gamers dont overhype games.

Dweeb editors that run the gaming magazines build the lame hype.




Remember that lame Spyro the Dragon shit? Unless you were 12 years old...no one liked it but the dumbass editors.


Same thing for all of those Ape Escape games.


Dont listen to what magazines say. Usually its shit out of their ass.

i'm the mirror side of you. I personally enjoyed first person shooter games especially Unreal Tournament 2004, Battlefield Series, Half-Life 2, Star Wars Republic Commando and Vital Sign.

But i think Halo and especially Half Life Counterstrike is super Over-rated. In fact as a fan of FPS games i really dislike both of them

haven't played CS in years (!!!!) since the online players are so lame

furthermore Halo is overrated and BF2 aswell
