Ghost Smilie [Review] War of The Worlds

I went to the 10:00pm show. Pretty packed. I was told like 20 tickets away from being sold out. The movie ran about for almost 2 hours. Those damn previews ran up to 30 minutes long before the movie started. It was a rather interesting film. I think Tom Cruise did a decent enough job. Graphics went to a whole new level of realism, but you could tell in a few scenes that the gfx didn't blend in with the real-time. A few comic reliefs. Girls in the theater screaming at non-scary scenes. Don't want to spoil anything else, but overall I give the movie a 4/5. Anyone else see it?

Saw it last night, made me want to die. it was really good and really intense. definitely on the edge of my seat 20 min into the movie and you don't really stop the entire way. i really liked morgan freeman as the narrator at the beginning and end of the movie. i also liked how you were with ray's character the entire way of the movie. those tri pods were badass. they were friggin scary lookin before they started doing what they do.

saw it last night at 9:30. The first half was some of the most tense movie watching ever. Everyone was raving about how good Dakota Fanning was. She kind of annoyed me...but I think it was more her character than her acting. Tom Cruise really did a great job. As for the special effects....its a Spielberg film and he didn't let us down. My one complaint was the ending...it was a little confusing and rushed...I still don't know what the hell Tom Cruise was yelling to the Army guys about the birds. Anyway, two thumbs up!

except on the two thumps up

The beginning was funny and intense but by the middle and end...youre like "get to the *oddammn point". There was abosolutely NO plot to this movie. People are saying about how you have to compare it to the book or when it was written...which probably 3/4 have never ever read....to understand the bases of the movie. But I say fuck that...The movie sucked!!!!

This movie was probably one of the crappiest Tom cruise and SSberg moive I have ever seen. The FX were ok but Minority Report was still a whole lot better (FX wise).

Do yourself a favor and wait til it hits DVD...it will be there in a month Im sure

i disagree the plot seemed to me to be

aliens crush hope part 1
aliens crush hope again, part 2
people crush hope. part 3
aliens crush more hope. part 4
people crush hope again. part 5
aliens crush hope one more time.

sorry i'm trying not to spoil it for those who haven't seen it cause i hate it when people do that for me but there was a very fluid plot to the movie in my opinion

**Spoiler below**

Yea, the birds signified that the shields were down. The first time Cruise was looking at the birds was foreshadowing this. Yea Dakota was a bit annoying. But that's her character I guess. My only complaint was... How in the hell did the boy make it to the house in Boston?? Didn't he blow up during that explosion

Posted by BiG MiKE on Jun-30-2005 19:28:

Yea I heard about it. But didn't the story originate somewhere during the late 19th Century?
