God YES. Blade Runner was a very inspirational movie for me in terms of music back in the 1980s. Vangelis is a genius.
As above, Jean Michel Jarre is highly suggested.
I would also suggest Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream also has a bunch of good space music, but some of it is space rock. Delerium and Enigma have some ambient-space on their older releases in the early 1990s. Brian Eno maybe has some space electronic the kind you are looking for.
Other than that, I really cant think of any other artist at the moment.

Nope. It was made in 1982.
Brian Eno - Music For Airports
Brian Eno - Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks (which has the so so good An Ending (Ascent)) and about everything else by him too
Eric Serra - Le Grand Bleu (US release is called The Big Blue) soundtrack might be good too and i definitely recommend to see the movie as well.

Hehehe, that movie looks pretty darn good for 1982, eh? Amazing graphics for that year, one of the reasons why that movie had a cult going in the 1980s, and to the day still have a strong fan base. There were some 'remake' and sequel attempts of the movie, but none were as good as the original.
Personally, I think that was the best work of the director Ridley Scott.
Vangelis - Main Titles is my favourite tune from my movie, by the way!
The first tune of the movie, when they show LA in 2019 ... I melt ....
those synths are amazing ....

Well, in this case I suggest to check out the Tyrell Bros. remake of the classic.
Vangelis - Blade Runner '98 (Tyrell Bros Remix)
&
Tyrell Corporation - Running
check out this liveset, it has a lot of narrations and sounds from movie Blade Runner
Carl Craig - Essential Mix (1995) [forgot the exact date]

Can also check out some Ennio Morricone, Mike Oldfield, Woijchech Killars (spelling). As already mentioned Brian Eno and Tangerine Dream. Dead Can Dance for more ethereal ambiant, and if you wanna go a little darker check out Robert Rich.

The proper spelling is Wojciech Kilar. Yes, I like his style. No, he doesnt play any ambient music - but gothic/classical-instrumental-orchestra music. I own a couple of his soundtracks, hehe ...
Mike Oldfield does have some ambient music, though I'd classify his style as more of mainstream nature/tribal sound influenced, covered by ambient sounds, synth not used consistently ... I almost bought one of his CDs once, didnt like the sound.
Ennio Morricone has some good stuff.

..which actually isn't the real director's cut but just an alternate version the producers "forced" Scott to cut'n'paste.
The real director's cut is meant to come out on the Blade Runner Special Edition 3xDVD box. It is planned to include 3-4 different versions of the movie, a 1982 workprint, the original theatrical version (with the voiceover and happy ending), the "so called" director's cut (which is currently the only version available on DVD) and the real yet unreleased director's cut (with lots of previously unseen, unheard, additional and alternate scenes) which will be called just 'Blade Runner' because that version will show the movie as Scott originally would have wanted it to be like.
The 3-disc box has been in the works since 2002 but because there are some serious legal issues between Scott, the producers and a 3rd party. The production company that owned the rights to the movie went out of business, and they are now fighting over who owns those assets. It might be that we'll never see the box to be released and if it does, in what form.... *sigh*

Is there anything you aren't a definitive source on?
Posted by Aiwendil on Jul-04-2005 17:25:
I could be a definitive source on anything, but I don't like to use google.
Posted by SYSTEM-J on Jul-04-2005 17:30:
You obviously have little experience of using it, too.
Posted by Aiwendil on Jul-04-2005 17:35:
Oh no!
I think you would have an easier time communicating your thoughts through writing if you clarified up your unclear statement by replacing "of" with "in". Is that not correct? Well, i'm glad to help you anyway. It doesn't sound right that way for some reason.
Posted by SYSTEM-J on Jul-04-2005 17:47:
No, because that would change what my post means. "In using it" implies the process of searching, "of using it" implies the results of trying to search for something.
