"Stevie G" off again

Looks like it anyway.

His agents have given a statement to sky sports news saying "talks have stalled and are unlikely to resume". Apparently it all comes down to him wanting more than the 80k per week he's on, and Benitez believing he's already on enough money.

I'm right behind Rafa. 80k is WELL ENOUGH. there'll be lads he grew up with who dont earn a quarter of that in 1 fucking year.

"HOW CAN I LEAVE AFTER THAT?".. by being a greedy **** yet again.

Youd think he'd be happy after winning that last season, but no, he's still not happy. Fucking embarassment.

GET HIM OUT AND GIVE CARRA' THE CAPTAINCY

thoughts?

RAFA: I WANT STEVIE TO STAY FOR LIFE
Paul Eaton 04 July 2005

Rafael Benitez today insisted he wants Steven Gerrard to remain a Liverpool player for the rest of his career.
Speaking at a news conference at Melwood, the Reds manager quashed speculation that he wants his captain to leave the club by insisting Gerrard has a major role to play in his Anfield future.

He said: "I can assure our fans that we want Steven Gerrard to stay with us for the rest of his career.

"I renew my deal with Liverpool in four or five years and when I do I would like Stevie to be my next coach, assistant manager and maybe even the next manager after me. He can even have the chief scout position if he wants it.

"I want him to stay with the club. We are trying to build a better team and a better squad and I want Stevie to be a major part of that.

"Last season I tried to get Stevie to sign a new deal three times. On each occasion he said wait, so we waited.

"This year we want to win more trophies and that is why we are improving our squad with new signings."

Yep saw it live before. I dont think manager would pay enough to satisfy him though. He's got far too much to say for himself and shows a total lack of respect to the club and the fans the way he tries to bully the club. He can do one as far as I'm concerned, unless he comes out with a special statement that changes everything.

CARRA FOR CAPTAIN

Posted by evil_bastard on Jul-04-2005 17:19:

Liverpool should sell him.

He's the most overhyped player in English football. They could probably get about 25M and he's not worth anything near that. He's a very good player but he's not world class and for 25M you expect a world class midfielder. I doubt he'll ever be as good as Lampard for example because he has too many off-games, sometimes he looks world class but he can't produce it enough. He gives the ball away a lot for a supposedly world class midfielder. A lot of Liverpool fans think Alonso is better and he only cost them 10M.

Can Liverpool survive without Gerrard? In a word, yes. They did well when he was injured last season, a lot better than I thought they would. 3 of their best performances in the Champions League were when Gerrard was injured: Bayer Leverkusen at home, Deportivo away, and Juventus away.

I hope he stays because if they sell him they will have enough money to join the top 3 in the Premier League and leave the rest of us behind.

Posted by scAza on Jul-04-2005 19:26:

You are wise evil bastard!

I dont disagree with anything you've said there, the last bit is interesting I'm not sure about it, but its interesting!

To be honest I dont think he's improved much at all since his 2nd and 3rd years in the first team, apart from being less injury-prone. Back then he went hell-for-leather non-stop every fucking game, and at the end he'd somehow manage to get himself to his car and back home without moaning about anything to the press or putting out some threatening statement.

Its unbelievable the transformation in him. Its partly down to the UTTERLY O.T.T hype he gets from the media. The amount of praise he gets in the most DISTINCTLY below-par games, is sickening for other players in the team I'm sure. He definately started believin the media hype around himself a few years ago.

"I'D SIGN FOR 10 YEARS TOMOROW IF THEY LET ME"

"HOW COULD I LEAVE AFTER THAT?"

...just a couple of statements that will be thrown back at him if (or when) he goes.

There's been loads of rumours round here as to why he's really leaving, stuff nothing to do with football that I'm not gonna say here. But the more this stuff goes on and the more EVERYBODY at the club claims they never want him to go, there's big money on the table, he's idolised by the fans, we're winning things again, we're signing big players, you start thinking "so why the FUCK would you want to leave" ???

Posted by scAza on Jul-05-2005 14:15:

Well he's put in a transfer request

full of shit he is

HEY STEVIE, UR A LIAR!

Fuckin hell, i'm so fuckin pissed.

Right after he told us liverpool fans "how could i leave liverpool after a night like this"

YOU BLOODY HELL. UR NO BETTER THAN MICHAEL OWEN. I HAVE TOTALLY LOST RESPECT FOR OWEN..AND NOW YOU'RE DOING THE EXACT SAME THING TO US, UR OWN FLESH AND BLOOD.

Why on earth would you wanna leave a club thats reigning EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS??? RAFA HAS ALREADY PROVED IN SO MANY OCCASIONS WITH VALENCIA AND NOW WITH LIVERPOOL THAT HES MORE THAN CAPABLE OF TAKING CLUBS ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP. WHAT OTHER REASON IS THERE??? YOU WANNA BE ENGLAND CAPTAIN??? JOLLYWELL WAIT A COUPLE YEARS AND BECKHAM WILL BE OUTTA HERE AND UR THE AUTOMATIC CHOICE?!!!

WTTTTTTFFFFFFFF

I wouldnt let him go for less than 40 million pounds. If chelsea wants him that much, i want abramovich to really pay.

Posted by chesco on Jul-05-2005 15:18:

I think you can put a large portion of the blame on the agent here, filling gerrards head with rubbish.

Turning down 100,000 to play for your favourite team in the world and european champions is laughable, gerrard isn't worth 50,000 a year never mind 100k. if liverpool get anywhere near the prices been mentioned so far then they could bring in maybe two world class midfielders who would do a far better job that gerrard.

Posted by Sean Walsh on Jul-05-2005 15:26:

Welp, they rejected a 32million pound bid from Chelsea this morning, so obviously they feel he's morth more than 50k a week =P

Pretty gutted about the whole thing to be honest, but I'd like to see who they can bring in as a replacement now that they'll have a massive transfer budget.

37mil big from barca, a bidding war between chelsea, RM and barca would be rather enjoyable. Prefer to see him abroad aswell.

I think ballack would be the perfect replacement.

Posted by Michael19 on Jul-05-2005 18:32:

Figos in the bag aswell. However gerrard moving might be a stumbling block. If he decides to go to mardrid, they might use figo deal to knock a few mil off the price for gerrard but i doubt it.

Heard milito is on of the signings rafa said would be mentioned in another week.

a top quality left-back is needed too imo...

oh and JESUS CHRIST please dont sign Figo Rafa, and dont you dare pay more than 5m for Crouch (if we MUST have him )

duff lampard gerrard Robben

SICK!

Posted by Sean Walsh on Jul-05-2005 21:32:

I didn't like the idea of Figo when we still had Gerrard, but with him on I think there's definitely room in our squad for a player of his class, even though he's aging.

Would fucking LOVE to see Ballack come our way.

Posted by evil_bastard on Jul-06-2005 01:06:

Over the past year I've changed my opinion on Gerrard a lot. Living in Liverpool most of the year and seeing a lot of their games, I've been shocked by how average he is at times.

He's also shown himself to be a right tosser lately. He has won the Champions League, the UEFA Cup, the FA Cup and the Carling Cup, yet he thinks he's too good for his hometown club.

He wasn't even one of Liverpool's best players last season, he wasn't even their best midfielder. He was inconsistent and lived off media hype.

I didn't rate Alonso at first even though Liverpool fans raved over him, but having watched him more since I have to say he is better than Gerrard. I remember when they played Chelsea and Alonso was dominating the play with his passing, spreading the ball around the midfield. Gerrard did nothing and lost the ball a lot with his heavy first touch. Alonso and Gerrard don't seem to work too well together, so keep Alonso and sell Gerrard for a fortune! Gerrard got the credit in the Champions League final but he was being completely outclassed by Milan's midfield until Hammann came on to sort it out.

Technically-speaking Gerrard isn't that gifted a player. Notice how Liverpool have moved him further up their midfield so he can forget the technical side of his game and focus on his gung ho style. That's why he got more goals last season. But against the top sides he fails to run the midfield, he doesn't have the technical ability or the intelligence. Against Milan he was outpassed and outclassed for almost two hours solid. Have you ever seen Gerrard dominate Keane or Vieira? He never comes out on top.

Gerrard can look amazing on Match of the Day when they show you a few clips of his 'hollywood passes' but what they don't show are all the times he lost control of the ball or whacked it into row Z trying to go for the hollywood pass. Alonso hardly ever loses the ball.

If he goes to Chelsea you will see that Lampard is twice the player Gerrard is, without the ego. This could be a fantastic move for Liverpool.

If Liverpool do sell Gerrard I think Rafa will go out and get Ballack, Aimar and Defoe. Or At least 2 of that list. Ballack is definitly on the block and would be a star in the Prem.

Whats worse if he gets sold. This or Owen??? I would say this.

Also if he goes to Chelsea that would be a smack the in the face, most of these english players dont insult the fans by trading to another english club(becks, owen) so I think he will go to Spain and not do a Vieri.

Posted by evil_bastard on Jul-06-2005 03:09:

I think he'll go to Chelsea to be honest. Liverpool would rather sell him to a club abroad but Chelsea have the most money and Liverpool won't turn that down.

I think he's had his eyes on Chelsea for the past 12 months.

It seems to be either them or Real Madrid.

Posted by milanster on Jul-06-2005 04:21:

Im guessing hez gonna be a chelski players in the coming day or 2....fuck imagine having Lampard and Gerrard playing alongside each other!

He's the one whose damages his own rep, not anybody else

here's my thoughts on it...

Deep down I think he should just go now to be honest, and here's why>

-Over the last 12 months, and even more, he's bullied this club something ruthless, he's made all sorts of demands that he has NO PLACE to make, on our managers and chairman. He believes hi own hype and thinks he's bigger than the club, there's no question about that.

-He is BLATANTLY not 100% comitted to the club, yet we still keep him as our CAPTAIN?? WTF?!?! CARRA has 100% commitment, he has never contemplated leaving, and he said himself "WHO IS BIGGER THAN LIVERPOOL?"- he should be captain

-the 40m we could get for him, would allow us to buy some QUALITY players, maybe even a centre mid who doesnt do so many "hollywood" passes, and give the ball away at times.

-BOTTOM LINE - he's fucked everybody around for over 12 months, if he wants to go he should just go, we wont accept half arsed performances. He HAS to prove himself to everybody all over again now. I hope he does his talking on the pitch this year, and not off it

Posted by evil_bastard on Jul-06-2005 10:56:

I think it's bad news for Liverpool that he's staying. He doesn't work very well with Alonso and you won't get the 30M or whatever which could easily replace Gerrard with a true world class midfielder like Ballack with money let over to spare. Also this is the second summer in a row where Gerrard has been tempted away before changing his mind.

If I was Liverpool I'd still tell 'the ego' to sling his hook and end this media circus.

Give the captaincy to Carragher, he's a much better role model, he's more consistent and he's more vocal on the pitch as well.

As a rival for 4th spot (or wannabe-rivals at the moment!) I'm glad he's staying at Liverpool. I think the top 3 can breathe a sigh of relief as well because you could have done some serious damage in the transfer market with that kind of money.
