Evil1 IS DESTINY DEAD??? Who are the new SUPER PROMOTERS?

Recent events have given evidence to the fact that destiny has failed it's community time and again. I personally have received nothing but dissapointment from anything and EVERYTHING that they have been involed with for quite a while. In short, Destiny sucks ASS!!

I've also noticed that there has been a real lack of "Quality" parties in recent months. With the exception of State...

I've heard rumours around T.O. about the line up coming for wintergalactic '02, two words...(UTTERLY CRAZY!!) But aside from that i can't really see anything on the horizon for Toronto.

I just wanted to know what everyone's opinion was, on Destiny, and on the scene in general...who do you think will RUN IT in 2002??

I guess you should read my Ascenion review ... I think it's over for Destiny. Ascenion has been a gettin' lower and lower turn outs by each party and WEMF 2001 was a complete nightmare. (Luckly I was smart enuff not to attend this event ... but I really feel for all of you who waited for 6 to 10 hrs in line on Friday to get back in the site) I think the scene for all ages parties are dying really fast (execpt for SonicState's parties )

In my opinion ... the top promoters for 2002 is going to be Guvernment (and it seems like any protmoters that join forces with GUV has a huge turn out for their parties), System Sound Bar (Breath) and SonicState for sure.

It is pretty much impossible to throw a huge party and be able to make money off of it these days in Toronto. That is why all the big companies aren't doing events anymore...with the exception of ss.

Peace,
Steve

I AGREE and its time for someone to take control and just start throwing some good... parties...

you need money to throw parties, unfortunately noone has money anymore.. sure people can put together good parties with headliners and have them cheap, but they'll be subpar headliners to Toronto standards.

2002 = corporate sponsorship and in clubs...
look at the Smirnoff Experience, Benson and Hedges in all the clubs.. they have the money to bring in the huge overpriced talent we all want to see, and can risk a huge loss (which they probably do an insurance or tax write off or something somehow)

What about Dose... They were more influential then Destiny, they are dead as well..

To think at one point, Toronto had a triving rave scene, Hullaboloo, Dose, Destiny, Syrous, Liquid Adrenaline, Destiny... and a bunch of others promotors that I never had a chance to attent their parties (busy living in Montreal back in the day)

What a shame... I think I'll blame it on the drug users which forced the city to make promotors hire loads of cops to protect the parties (like dont try to argue that its a fact)

I have to agree with all of your post. It's so hard to throw huge parties these days in TO and I don't think it will be like 97,98 and 99 ... regarding the amount of ppl attending.

I heard from one of my friend that BIG BUD is trying to get the CNE for NYE, but honestly I don't see that happing at all and like Viceroy says .... "IMPOSSIBLE !!!" Pay Duty Officers are going to coast a arm and a leg for a party that size as this time. If LifeForce can't do it ... I don't think any TO baised promoters can. The rental for a venue on CNE grounds must of 3X since BitterSweet 2001.

Corporate sponsorships in Clubs - I think they are going to be the only ones who can do it nowadays and give us the DJS we wanna see.

KarateKid :[

hrmmzz .. i guess the cops really won this time eh ..

they tried to do it with an all out ban .. which didn't work .. so they outpriced the parties instead ..

smart pork chops !

I think it would work well if the big boys that used to run the companies we all love, destiny, dose, hulla, l.a., etc....would go and work for these corporate sponsers that are now doing the huge events. Have them manage and organize the tours, picking the talent and cities.

Now tell me that wouldn't be one amazing job....oh so much fun.

Peace,
Steve

is destiny dead? I'm not so sure about that but... they are definitely having their troubles. Past couple ascensions... lacking. When was the last actual "destiny" party again? was it dj taucher at atlantis?? not too sure. however... what i am sure of is that the scene is changing like it always has since the beginning. Many companies have come and gone... some with no one noticing, and then again, some like everyone noticing. for instance, a lot of people are noticing that destiny is losing their touch when it comes to the parties that they throw all the way from the headliners and the venue to the prices and quality of production... however, they still hold a stellar roster and should use it to their advantage or else they jus might fall of the page...

so who is in control when it comes to the trance scene? jus to list a few...

sonic state - wintergalactic 2001 and state of progression seem to be on top of a lot of peoples' lists of "best party of the year". with wikkid decor and high quality production, definitely a company to keep an eye on for the new year. I mean wintergalactic 2002 is already getting hyped and it's months away! And one thing noticed at their parties, tight vibe with a lot of people. Proving that it's not necessarily a smaller party has a better vibe.

guverment/kool haus - with names like tiesto, paul van dyk, ferry corsten and mauro picotto rollin thru there (and with the sponsorships like smirnoff) another place to look for a good time

purple heaven - aimed quite more towards the "rave" scene, this is a company that knows how to throw it down and holding it down when it comes to promoting PLUR, the cornerstone of the rave scene

i'm sure that many of you can list other clubs/companies that can list right up there with those but that's all i got right now at this hour of the morning.

i haven't seen something impressive from lifeforce (dose, syrous, renegades),destiny, liquid adrenaline, who once used to dominate the scene with amazing parties (connected v2.0, bittersweet, new year's parties, wemf) and probably won't. some have turned to throwing primarily in clubs, some have jus completely threw in the towel.

so who is the "super promoters" when it comes to throwing it down in tdot? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion....

... and this post was mine

peace

Destiny dead?? Well it be a shame if they were; being the longest running promotion company in Canada and all, it be sad to see a small part of our history go like that. Sure they might be having some difficult times right now, everyone does. But to last in this scene they gotta be strong; if they want to give it all up then by all means, then someone else will take their place. Maybe the corporations will, i'm sure we will be seeing more of them having a big part of our scene. I just hope they help build and support our scene but not take over it.

Yeah it is very sad the way things are going for Destiny. I too didn't go to WEMF 2001, and I'm glad I didn't! I remember when there was a time when I had the highest respect for Destiny, not any more though.
Honestly, the ONLY promoters I trust and look forward to their paries, are Sonic State and Purple Heaven.
I WILL be at WEMF next yeear though, I havet lost faith completely...

Posted by bucky on Dec-10-2001 00:32:

I still have the highest respect for Destiny, Lifeforce and all of those big companies.. theres no reason to lose respect for them. I highly doubt they'd ever want to put together a party knowing it would suck, just bad luck.. they're the ones who had it going BIG and STRONG in the City, and now they're also unfortunately the ones who've lost big.

KarateKid $$$

i gotta agree with some of the above comments ..

it does seem to be that a lotta the big promoters in Europe & overseas are all tied to corporate sponsorship. I think skeptics have to give up the belief of 'selling out' and fall in league with the corporations. It might be the only way to save the scene at this point.

Better a corporate scene than no scene at all !

Posted by feisty boy on Dec-10-2001 17:37:

^^good call desidel

the scene has been mainstream for longer than a lot of people are willing to admit.

having the name 'smirnoff' on flyers, and maybe a couple of projections in a club, is a VERY small downside to actually be able to see our favourite big name dj's again, in parties that aren't being shut down by cops.....

look at europe - they've been corporate for ages, and yet we all cry about "why can't we have parties like that"
well we can, if people would attend them, and stop living in the past!!

as for viceroy's comment, that some of the superpromoters should start working for the companies doing these corporate bashes, well they already are...

Who are you to say such a thing? drug users have existed with raves since the raves started....people use drugs in raves all over the world...why are we the only ones that have to be this way!?

comments like this really really really piss me off!!!!

I'm not gonna argue either way about that...

I personally hate drugs, and don't see the point of taking them... But I feel much safer at a party with 10,000 drugged up ravers than I do at a club with 2000 drunk hooligans....

That's all I have to say about that.

Posted by Abbas on Dec-11-2001 02:09:

I don't wanna argyue about drugs...since this isnt the topic, and im sick of making such an argument....

but all im saying....dont just throw blame at people for what they do....and what i said is true, and you cant argue that part....and drugged up ravers in my opinion are much much safer than drunk hooligans from my experiences

Does anyone know who this special guest will be at the destiny new years party

Posted by feisty boy on Dec-16-2001 01:10:

my money's on "dave the drummer", since he's playing at ascension 3 nights before....

Posted by toosweet on Dec-16-2001 01:46:

hmmmmm.....

possibly gon be Spock Jenkins. He threw an amazing set a couple ascensions back... and they mentioned that the headliner was from Amsterdam Holland. and if they're pickin from their roster... that's the man to turn to.

good luck to them that night. it's a good line up, but the negative responses from board to board isn't making it out to be.

the new year will answer this thread's question... is Destiny dead. Word is that they will be goin 19 over and turning to the corporate sponsors too... but will it help the fact that they have lost a lot of their following? will they have a new following if they do turn 19 and over? can they compete with the ranks of sonic state, guverment and kool haus and the club scene that already has a strong following? ... the new year will tell all

as for new years...all the partiers, have fun and be safe. all the companies and promoters.. good luck. cheers

peace
