Paul Van Dyk

Ok, so I saw Paul van dyk in concert at the other night in los angeles and let me tell you, it was the most amazing set i've seen...Just everything about him was insane; his manerisms when he djed, he had an apple computer on stage with him which i have no clue what he was using for (unless it was used to find tracks on his computer to mix...) and i've been djing for 7 years...It was crazy seeing the number 2 dj in the world right in front of you...let me tell you with 25,000 people in front of you that's got to be a euphoric feeling...what my question is HOW THE HELL DO YOU BECOME THAT BIG NOW DAYS...I mean i think i'm pretty good at what I do...you can check out my dj site at http://www.magazinex.org/jamroom/bands/211/ but i have no idea how to find a promoter or representation or even where to look, can anyone give me any leads???

If you've been djing for 7 years, you've heard of SSL (Serato Scratch Live)?

re: your comment about the #2 DJ in the world, that's coming from a poll where most of the voters are obviously fooled by tiesto's brilliant marketing personnel. Paul van Dyk is the best DJ in the world as far as I'm concerned, with Armin close behind.

true that, I mean have you ever heard someone introduce PVD as "here is the #2 DJ in the world"???? no one dares cause the guy is #1 for a lot of us. I saw him too on saturday, is crazy how I looked at the time and i thought "jesus, he's been playing for over an hour!!!!." Time flies by with a DJ of his magnitude.

How do you become so big? Talent. Managment does help BUT is all about talent, everything else should fall in place with time.

rrrrrrright. all the talent in the world won't get you anywhere if you don't know how to manage it (or are managed) extremely well. those guys are also as popular and get as much support because of their variuous non-dj-talent personal attributes. add to this blood sweat and tears building up grass roots support over many years. much like PVD has been doing for many years.

another method to be top dj is to be sponsored by someone big in the industry. this the typical big business way. think of ashlee simpson as an example. i can't think a DJ example. can you?

Pedro from Napolean Dynomite.

Don't kill me if I'm wrong, but didn't James Zabiela get exposure because of support from Sasha?

Posted by stefanoc on Jul-05-2005 06:53:

haha pedro from napoleon dynamite

i really wanted to go to this one but i was late and thought by 10-11 there would be no parking and i didnt know when paul played and how long he played. how were the other djs?

Posted by eltomas on Jul-05-2005 07:12:

PVD live sets at open air venues like stadiums and festivals (NOT clubs) are usually 1 hr 30 min,,,he played from 1:30 til the end at 3, he finished the set off with Time of our lives, then for angel and the cherry on top was nothing but you. The cool thing about it was that he played all those 3 songs in like 6 minutes: he played only the best part of "time of our lives", the same with "for an angel (marc van linden mix)and "nothing but you", made everyone happy. I still think talent is the most important thing, is it a coincidence that the the most talented Djs have the best managment?

i'm curious too. is he the ashlee simpson of edm? c'mon, i know there are zabiela addicts out there. :/

Posted by RebeL9 on Jul-05-2005 07:45:

can't have been that amazing if he played Nothing But You and Time of our lives.
oh btw its not all about talents. if it all was about talents then we would have thousands of Tiestos running around. Since he is not talaneted at all when it comes to mixing :/

Totally agree with you about PVD. But I rate Ferry just above Armin at the minute.

Dude, face it. There isn't one damn dj who gets mentioned on this board that you can say you like or is good. Your life sucks and you spew that fact all over this forum every time you post. Dj Mikey mike, wow there is a dj name for you. Im sure you are just playing all the hot shit. Sorry, what venue will you be spinning at this weekend?

Posts as dense as this don't really deserve to be dignified with any kind of reponse. You don't know me, you don't know what I like, and you don't where and what I play. Your post just reinforces yet again the fact that you're a gimp.

And yet you replied anyway. Sorry, but did I strike a nerve with my last post?
