Got to admit that this is one heck of a good production. Mark Otten never releases crap, That's why he is appreciated in my book.

Strange how you and me tend to think alike about EVERY track out there.
We seem to have exact the same taste. Very, very weird. Anyway Mark Otten always pumps out tunes. So Serene doesn't change anything about that. It is a great tune.

Love this track, so beautifull. Definetly picking it up when it gets released.

menno de jong remix on the flip i got told by armada sources

curious how a trancy remix of this slow, emotional listning tune will end up!

I guess that just because you are a uplifting whore, and I really love uplifting stuff. Anyways, Great production by Otten.

I don't like this too much. My least favorite of Otten's productions, while I must agree that his previous work is outstanding.

I like the pianos, but that guitar melody is bordering on plain cheese.

Posted by Tayfoon on Jul-09-2005 04:08:

Total cheese imo

utter shite

maybe MdJ will save this release

Posted by Col on Jul-09-2005 16:11:

I'm afraid I'm with the negatives.

I wouldn't say it's "total cheese" and "utter shite" as said above, but I do think Mark Otten should really stop with this fucking advert music. It's just boring, watered down sass, he keeps it as cute and unoffensive as possible. I'm afraid I can't pick up the emotion in something so flat and static, I like music that MOVES.

Sure, piano breaks in trance are often brilliant, but most producers will use a piano to prompt some kind of dramatic ascension. 'So Serene' is just another example of Otten's completely clean, smooth sine sounds and pads... it's fair play if you like transparent, utterly easy-on-the-ears pieces, but it's really the opposite to what "trance" is really about.

Bet it rocks the dancefloors.

I really follow you opinion on this one, Col. It's nicely said.

This tune just doesn't do it for me neither, it's idd a little bit to the cheezy side... First Mark Otten production I dislike!

wtf r u guys talking about? u obviosly don't understabd mark otten's music. as in mushroom therapy, its supposed to be chilled out music u can listen to at any time of the day or night. i was listening to so serene last night on the way back from a party and it totally hit the spot. i'd say its one the best so far this year..

yeah but he's been pushing away from the floor filler tracks. a lot of mark's tracks are meant for listening not for the floor. i think your missing the point if your throwing him into that category of basslines & huge percussion

Posted by DJMIKE on Jul-09-2005 20:30:

this song/track is the most beautiful i heard this uear for sure. its a perfect bleng of acoustic instruments and has a almost jazzy feeling in it.

10 / 10 without a doubt for me

Mark Otten is a genious

For me, a Mark Otten prorudction usually meant not just some nice/chill melody stumbled upon by accident, but this very unique and particular sound, like in Mushroom Therapy, Tranquility, his work with Halifax. They carried this amazing vibe, where as this piece has those over used piano harmonies and that cheese guitar and has none of that Mark Otten trademark sound.
