Hello there,

Just wondering, i'm about to build my dj table and was wondering...

I'm 193cm tall. Or 6'3". Or 2.09 yards jk... had to figure out cm and was given yards as well.

Anyway, i'm not sure if the table i'm making is too high/tall.

The top of the decks is going to be 108cm off the ground. And my elbow is 112cm off the ground.

I read a while back that your table should be around your elbow height for comfort so i was hoping some of you can confirm this as it seems a little high.

I haven't dj'd for long periods yet so i'm not sure what height is known to be comfortable. Should your elbows be perpendicular (i hope you understand what i mean) Or should the decks be slightly lower..?

I'm putting a good bit of effort into this table so there's not much trial and error.

ive mixed many nights for 6+ hours straight and the best tables are the ones that come up to your stomach and nothing lower! Sounds like a no brainer, but tables that are too low, youll end up having to hunch down killing ur back and after spinning for a certain amount of time, your headphones begin to strain ur neck.

If it's any help; The Sefour deckstand that I use is 37" in height, with the turntable on top which is another four inches - it's 41 inches combined.
I'm 6 foot 1" and find it perfectly comfortable to use at that height

If you added an inch or two to the original Sefour deckstand height of 37 (make it 39" or so) then that should be perfect for you.

if by perpendicular you mean forming a 90 degree angle, yes, your arms should be perpendicular. i believ, however, about1.5 inches under the elbow is the spot, since you tilt your hands downwards to cue. so the table top should be a bit above your waist line, and a slight bit below your elbow.

that way, you won't have to bend towards it to cue, or will your arms get tired from it being too high.

oooo crap well that must explain why sometimes my back goes funny i couldnt figure out why coz its not when i mixing but my table is bellow waist level. I dont have much choice, i got bearly any $$ and thats goen to vinyl for shure.

To get the height that is just right, put some books under your TTs on a temporary table or kitchen counter and try spinning, then adjust the height until it is perfect and take a measurement. That's what I did before I made my table. The platters or mixer / laptop computer etc will probably be a little below elbow level. That height also gives you a place to rest your arms or lean on during a long session.

I've always like the Sefour x30, so thought i'd have a go at drawing it up.

This is what i came up with. I've got another idea though to give it a personal choice. If i get time i'll be able to start building the bloody thing lol

Might have to try that thing with the books, cheers mate

i am so torn at what height to make this table for some reason... i am 6ft on the dot and i am thinking 36" high table with a TT or cdj etc... about another 4" so 40".... i really don't want it to be too low... i spent 7 months with a table that was too low

Its really up to you, when I built mine I put my TTs on different heights and found what was comfortable. Theres no set height as each person has slightly different posture/problems with joints etc. I think mine is a little lower than some people have been saying here, but I reckon its perfect. My arms are slightly below perpendicular, the top of the platters is about 1cm below belly button level, and thats perfect for me. I can stand straight, theres no stress on my elbows or shoulders (which can happen if its too high).

Its really up to your personal preference. Look around at bench tops etc around you home and work out what the ideal height is for you. Like tvmann said, just chuck some books under a TT to find the right height, or if you don't wanna moev your TTs, just put down some books or something at different heights and lay your hands on top and find the most comfortable height.

I am 6'3" as well and the top of my decks sit at 42.5" (for the buttons) and 43" (for the top of the platter. This is just below my 46" elbow (or so--I had to measure myself). You certainly do not want to make it higher than your elbow because you will have severe elbow and wrist pain after several hours of spinning and you may also develop chronic pain (long term) if you spin a lot (hours every day). I've got my equipment in a travel case (self-made) that is very thick (6"), so as people have said above, you will want to make sure you compensate for the height of your decks, padding etc. I also find it quite useful to have the mixer at an angle (maybe 25� or so up so that the back of the mixer is higher than the front by a couple of inches) I also have my equipment in a travel case permanently and you will too if you plan on spinning anywhere besides your bedroom. I have an adjustable X-stand (it looks just like an X with two cris-crossing bars with a locking mechanism) that allows you to adjust the height of the stuff sitting on it. This particular one also has a pair of small arms that can hold something above the main platform (I put a turntable up there). It is quite nice for house parties etc if there is not any type of stand there for you--no one has stands or tables that are as high as you need for mixing standing up in their own home.

Anyway, the stand is nice because you can pack everything up nicely and put it in the closet etc when you move or are cramped for space.

yeah this is going to be a custom built table from mdf... it will be painted in a semi gloss black paint and all of my gear is black....
it will have 2 levels... one for the 2 tech 1200s, 2 cdj1000, 1 mixer the top level is for laptop (for recording... too slow for live remixing lol), it is also for monitors and "hosa lights" or some sort of lamps for the decks so i can see when i throw a party... it is in a room with a hardwood floor that is great for dancin'

can't wait... i just don't want to mess it up that is why i am so concerned with the height of the table

spent $160 on materials so far, i start building on saturday
