Steve Porter @ Cleo's - Orlando

I just found out that Steve Porter will be in Orlando this Friday! Not sure if anyone posted this here yet but wanted to share in case people don't know about it.

where exactly is cleo's ?not familiar with it

Posted by fmaretti on Jul-12-2005 12:15:

Cleo's is in the same little plaza where Knock Knock and Crooked Bayou are. If you go past the bathrooms on the right.

sorry

i wish the scene in florida was better. everything except miami sucks.

Well, I agree that the scene here sucks however it just happens that this is a small bar/club that used to bring a lot of good DJs and now is starting to bring them sometimes again. The bathroom doors are just before you get to the bar since there are a few other bar/clubs that use the same bathrooms in the plaza. And just because MIAMI has better clubs it does not mean you have to laugh about it. Miami is also a much bigger town. I myself go to Miami all the time and love it there but I go for the DJs and not for the venue, which in my opinion, the venues in Miami are the worst as far as treatment to their customers.

dont take it personally. i was just joking. miami aint all that either. for the real scene you gotta go over to europe, nothing compares to europe. here theres ONE place that brings (imo) good names on a regular basis and thats space. and even then i cant afford to be doing that shit all the time, so i understand. crobar is good too but they need to bring more names. and yes i agree service sucks, but what are you gonna do? theres no point in bitching about it, we ALL know.

but yeah man, sorry if i offended you, didnt mean to, i've been up for awhile and a little delusional so any little thing i'll laugh at.

edit: actually now that i think about it, service really isnt THAT bad. bouncers/security are dicks yeah, but thats what they're paid for. and bartenders you just gotta know how to deal with. i just tip really well at the beginning and then always go back to the same person. once they see me they get my drinks quick as shit. at space i've actually been behind someone before not being able to get to the bar cuz it was so crowded and i got my drinks before the person in front of me (who looked pretty pissed).

Hey man, not offended at all and I agree with you on all you said. I just wish the scene in Orlando would change and be as it used to be years back since I am living here now.

i wish there was more underground shit....thats the only way its gonna get better, cuz there just isnt enough money in small clubs/bars playing edm. and its all about the money.

I'm definitely interested in seeing Steve Porter so hopefully I can find this place.

Posted by SlackerBoy9 on Jul-12-2005 21:20:

I'm definitely gonna hit this up...haven't seen Porter in awhile. As for the clubs...i kind of miss Icon at least once a month they would bring decent talent.I agree with Pat Mcgroin though all the great clubs are in europe....ugh if only there was something close to fabric around here i would be there every weekend

Hehe, time to give my Orlando pep talk again...

The scene in this town ultimately is going to be what we make of it. I understand what it was (started partying in this town back in 93 so I saw the high water mark), and I understand also that people went crazy with drugs, people died, and legislation was passed that makes it much harder to do stuff in this town. I understand why people go to Miami and Tampa for shows....absolutely. What I think people should avoid though is just bashing this town. There is alot of amazing talent here still, and alot of people who continue week after week, month after month, year after year to spend all their time, money and energy trying to keep this scene alive despite the tough laws and despite all the people telling them constantly how much the "scene" here sucks. The best way to make things better here is to invest as much of yourself as you can back into our own scene. Come out and support your local talent. When a big name comes through, come early and give the local openers some love too. People are trying really hard to get the big shows going, but if they don't get support on their local nights, then the clubs aren't going to keep them around long enough to support big named acts.

A good example for you are the Vizion 1 and Heat guys. Vizion 1 (reknown for the talent they were bringing into Icon a couple years back) has been working to bring in big breaks names at Fusion on Wednesdays. Starting next Thursday, they are gonna start working with the Heat guys trying to bring big names once a month to their new Thursday show at Zinc. (These are the guys who brought Ferry last month, Carlos is the DJ who opened for him and does a show every Thursday). Next week is Charles Feelgood, next month (August 18th) is Donald Glaude. Support the big shows, but try to support the local shows too. That's how this scene will regrow. When local guys put their money on the line to get something going again, we gotta be out there supporting it.

Ok, that's my weekly Orlando pep talk...

Posted by k1ba on Jul-15-2005 13:20:

big shows during the middle of the week? and clubs closing early is what needs to be worked on. at least from what i remember the clubs over there close at 2am...

Posted by EWreckedSean on Jul-15-2005 13:26:

Most of the clubs close at 3am. Not much is gonna change that right now, especially after this latest drug bust at Red Square. They are doing big name events during the week for simple economics. Artists are less expensive on weekdays, so for these smaller venues, it makes sense. The only venue that can really afford big weekend shows is House of Blues right now.

I am with you and that is why I got a little defensive with the comment earlier but I understand why he would make such comment also. I actually try to support local talent as much as I can and would love to get more involved in making the scene better here.

ok now I want to go

Awesome, that is exactly what this town needs more of. The best things people can do is to come out and support our local scene as much as possible, and when you have a good time, which I do all the time in town, let people know about it.

Yeah, not alot of room, but an awesome time. I'm definately packing a 20 pack of budlight in my trunk before this party though. Last time we ended up at Hamel's after party with no beer....

Posted by fmaretti on Jul-15-2005 15:07:

I wonder if Bill is having a party tonight. That would be great.

Posted by EWreckedSean on Jul-15-2005 15:11:

Not sure...don't really know that crowd too well, but one of the other SceneOrlando guys is friends with Tim Skinner so we just kind of ended up over there last time.
